The Unshakables Part 4 – Building a Right Foundation

The Unshakables Part 4 – Building a Right Foundation

What happens when my world is shaken up – Do I run to God or run from God? That really is determined by your foundation in Christ – You can build a life that is anchored, immovable, and indestructible.

All of us will experience a giant shake-up at some point. We will be striving towards accomplishing plan A when plan Q gets thrown into our path. Life changes all around us and some of these changes shatter our world. This can be a death, a sudden illness, an accident, a job loss, bankruptcy, a natural disaster, or any number of things that we never dreamed of preparing for.

•Earthquake this past week in Mexico City 7.5

•3rd game of the 1989 World Series in San Francisco 2.9

•in 1995, Kobe Japan, 33,000 people injured, 5,470 killed, 300,000 homeless, destroyed 144,000 buildings. What was the cause? The ground shook for only 20 seconds.

•Scientist and engineers are working on techniques for building earthquake resistant buildings. Their Goal – structures must have strength, flexibility, and proper foundation to withstand the shaking.

(Luke 6:46-49 NIV)46 Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

The determining factor of a right foundation – Determines the stability of your life during shifting; Determines the strength of your life when under storms; Determines the structure of your life (How high determines how deep)

It is to your advantage to become settled and fixed on the Word of God so that the shaking comes it will not shake you.

Our Right Foundation

We believe the Bible is the unchangeable, inspired Word of God to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.

500 Year of the Reformation  – The Reformers did not see themselves as inventors, discoverers, or creators. Instead they saw their efforts as Rediscovery. •The looked back to the Bible for the mold by which they could shape the church and reform it.

•There was a reformation of church life, practice, and doctrine

• One of the 5 Solas of the Reformation were – Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone): The Bible is the final authority in all matters of life and Godliness. (

In America, Bibles are everywhere. You can find them in grocery stores, bookstores, motel rooms, everywhere. They’re available in all sizes, shapes, translations, versions, leather bound, paperback. Every year the Bible out sells every other major bestseller. Last year there were 500 million Bibles published in the world in 18,000 different languages. In America we are glutted with the word of God on the airways, radio, TV, books, magazines. It’s everywhere. Yet millions of people still miss the blessing of the Bible.

The Bible is not just a book; it is a God breathed, God indwelt, God inspired message. We are to believe what the Bible says, not what we think it says of what someone else says that it says.

The Bible is God’s Word to man, written and preserved for eternity. It is God’s official declaration and final decision. When invoked, it sets the standard to which all circumstances must conform. it is the absolute truth and the foundation of our Christian Faith.

The Scriptures contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation! Read it to be wise, we believe it to be saved, and practice it to be holy. Read it slowly, frequently, prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of Glory, and a river of pleasure. It is the book of all books!

1. The Scriptures are Supernaturally Inspired By God

2 Timothy 3:16-17 AMP – Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action),17 So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.

“The Bible is alive, it speaks to me; it has feet, it runs after me; it has hands, it lays hold of me.” Martin Luther

“If we take the supernatural out of Christianity all we are is a philosophy”

2 Peter 1:20-21 ESV knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Charles Spurgeon said – “The Book is a divine production; it is perfect, and it is the last court of appeal, the judge which ends all strife. I would as soon dream of blaspheming my Maker as of questioning the infallibility of His Word.”

•••Scripture is of no private interpretation. God has an intended meaning for each passage. There is only one correct interpretation. God did not gives the Bible so that we could find in it what we want it to mean. God gave us the Bible so that we could study it diligently to find out what it actually means. Many applications but only one interpretation.

The Bible Is An Eastern Book

•It was not written for theologians.

•It was never intended to be exhaustive, only comprehensive.

•It was written with a supernatural frame of reference.

•It’s the oldest book in the world—whose Author is still alive.

•It can best be understood from the standpoint of experience.

•It is a “living” document. It’s Author hovers over the pages.

•The Holy Spirit will never lead you to do anything contrary to what He has already written.

Interesting Insights Concerning The Bible

•The Bible is a library made up of 66 books.

•Two main sections: the Old and the New Testament.

•The Old Testament has 39 books

•The New Testament has 27 books.

•These 66 books, have a total of 1,189 chapters

•The chapters total about 31,273 verses.

•The Bible was divided into chapters only 800 years ago.

(More than 1100 years after New Testament written.)

•In A.D. 1551 the New Testament was divided into verses.

•20 minutes a day, read the whole Bible in one year.

Pope Francis said, “If faith is to be strong and healthy, it must be constantly nourished by the Word of God.”

2. The Scriptures were not given to increase our knowledge but to supernaturally transform our lives

Mark Twain said, “It ain’t the those parts of the Bible that I can’t understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand.”

“People do not reject the Bible because it contradicts itself but because it contradicts them.”

Joshua 1:8 NIV – “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Scripture has 4 Senses to it – St. Thomas of Aquinas

•Literal – the actual meaning of the words

•Allegorical – the figurative sense of the words

•Moral – the meaning of the words that spurs us to a moral, christlike life•Anagogical – (leading) the mostly hidden, mystical sense of the rods, often pointing to some aspect of the afterlife

Psalms 1:1-3 ESV Blessed is the man[a] who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2  but his delight is in the law[b] of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3  He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

3. Knowing God’s Word enables you to Know God

John 5:39 NIV–  “You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me..”

John Calvin said, “We owe to the scripture the same reverence which we owe God bc it proceeded from Him alone and has nothing belonging to man mixed with it”

God and His Word are the same – It’s not just words on a page, its a person – Jesus Christ.

John 1:1-5 ESV – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life,[a] and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Everything we are spiritually is because of God’s Word at work in our life. Therefore you will never be more spiritual than you are scriptural.

John 6:63 ESV –  It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

Growing in the knowledge of the Word of God is essential to growing in the SuperNatural! The Words of God is the Works of God!

4. God’s Word will Outlast Any Shaking

Matthew 24:35 ESV – Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Bottom line: God’s word is eternal. Hold on to it! It will last longer than your problems

I Peter 1:23-25 ESV since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; 24 for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you.

“God’s Word is not obsolete, it is absolute.”

John 15:4-7 ESV Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

5. Read the Scriptures Habitually

Luke 4:16-19 ESV  And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. 17 And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written, 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

The Secret to your spiritual success is hidden in the daily routine of reading God’s Word

Lectio divina – Sacred Reading. It has 4 steps that we can apply today.

•Lectio – a selection or a reading

•Meditatio – Thinking over or meditation

•Oratio – Speaking or praying words

•Contemplatio – Contemplation

pastedGraphic.pngSpending time with God should be a lifelong habit, not a passing fancy. Research shows you need to do something for about six weeks straight to build a habit. Make God’s Word part of your life today — and for the rest of your life.

Hebrews 10:16 ESV – “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,”

“In our prayers, we talk to God, in our Bible study, God talks to us, and we had better let God do most of the talking.” – D.L. Moody

John 8:31 NKJV – Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.

When you get interested in God’s Word you get interested in God

•You can hear it, You can read it,You can study it,You can memorize it, You can meditate on it, and You can apply it

Charles Spurgeon said, “Nobody ever outgrows scripture, the book widens and deepens with our years.”

How To Radically Improve Your Life Pt.2: The Master Key To All the Treasures of Life

How To Radically Improve Your Life Pt. 2 – The Master Key To All the Treasures of Life

One day Charlie Brown  came home with his report card. As he turned on the TV, his sister Lucy scoffed at his grade: “You got a “C” in history? That’s only average.” Charlie Brown  defended himself: “So what? I’m an average student in an average school in an average community. What’s wrong with being average?” Lucy retorted, “Because you’re capable of doing much better.”

How many of us settle for just average?

Improvement isn’t automatic. You’re only young once, but you can be ignorant indefinitely. Each year the lobster is forced to shed its shell; it’s a pity we aren’t! Come on, if you don’t make personal growth and improvement your responsibility it’ll never happen. The road to anything worthwhile is always uphill, so the sooner you start climbing the closer to reaching your God-ordained potential you’ll be.

Personal growth and improvement is our responsibility.

“For things to change, you have to change. For things to get better, you have to get better. For things to improve, you have to improve. When you grow, everything in your life grows with you.” Jim Rohn

When you improve yourself you improve your life, your relationships, and your finances

Improve – the act or process of making something better; increased value or excellence; advance, development, upgrade, refinement, renovation, enhancement, advancement, upgrading, betterment

•To make radical improvements in you life, you need either inspiration or desperation

•Sad thing is 95% of our society settles for far less than they want in this life, wishing they had more, living with regret, and never understanding that they could be, do, and have MORE our of life – Im here to Inspire you today to radically improve your life.

•••A young man asked the old man, “What’s the secret of your success?” Good decisions, he replied. How do you learn to make good decisions? You get that by experience. How do you get experience? By making bad decisions.

Your life will get better when you get better!

Wisdom – knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action; sagacity, discernment, or insight.

The Hebrew word means “Skilled in Living” – To know what to do with what you know is the essence of wisdom.  The Law of God applied accurately to your life to solve problems.

Proverbs 4:5-8 AMP – Get skillful and godly Wisdom, get understanding (discernment, comprehension, and interpretation); do not forget and do not turn back from the words of my mouth.Forsake not [Wisdom], and she will keep, defend, and protect you; love her, and she will guard you. The beginning of Wisdom is: get Wisdom (skillful and godly Wisdom)! [For skillful and godly Wisdom is the principal thing.] And with all you have gotten, get understanding (discernment, comprehension, and interpretation). Prize Wisdom highly and exalt her, and she will exalt and promote you; she will bring you to honor when you embrace her.

We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid. – Benjamin Franklin

Today there is Lots of Knowledge, but little understanding. Lots of means, but little meaning. Lots of know how, but little know why. Lots of sight, but little of insight.

Can you think of anything worse than living a life devoid of growth and improvement?

1. Wisdom is the Master Key to All the Treasures of Life

Treasure – wealth, rich materials, or valuable things. any thing or person greatly valued or highly prized: to value, esteem.

2 Chronicles 1:10-12 NIV10 Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?”11 God said to Solomon, “Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, possessions or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, 12 therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, possessions and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.”

•Solomon born around 974 BC. Installed as King at 12 yrs old. Richest Man who ever lived. (Trillioinaire) Why? He asked for Wisdom.

Proverbs 8:11 NIV – for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.

•Highest quality ruby= 10x more valuable than a top diamond – 1 gram of gold= $50 – 1 gram precious ruby=$50,000!

•Gold reserves worth hundreds of billions of dollars. 4000 stalls for his horses and chariots. 12,000 horseman on his payroll. Ruler of nations sought his advice and paid him for it.

Proverbs 16:16 NIV – How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!

If God offered you 1 Thing what would it be?

Proverbs 2:1-4 NIV – My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, 2  turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding—3 indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, 4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure,

You always INVEST in what you find Valuable. Invest in Wisdom!

“If you think investing in yourself is expensive, you should try ignorance”

Proverbs 1:5 NIV – let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance

Don’t be a know it all~ Be a learn it all~! Don’t bankrupt your mind~

Warren Buffet said the most important investment you can make is in yourself.

The greatest value in life is not what you get but what you become! When you improve yourself you improve your life!

•••Buy the books, Go to the seminars, Continue to learn, purchase the audios and videos – GROW GROW GROW!

•Is the products worth it? I don’t know but YOU ARE!~ (money i’ve spent on personal & spiritual development)

A university study done a few years ago found that almost one-third of all physicians were so busy working, they were 2 years behind in the latest developments in their field. Heaven help their patients! If you want to be a continual learner, you must carve out time to do it! Henry Ford said, “It’s been my observation that successful people get ahead during the time other people waste.” Never leave your Bible, books (kindle), podcasts when you travel. Seize every opportunity to keep growing. The secret to becoming a learner – is to learn something new every day! Listen, “Get understanding. Esteem her and she will exalt you.”

Proverbs 22:17-18 NLT – Listen to the words of the wise; apply your heart to my instruction.18  For it is good to keep these sayings in your heart and always ready on your lips.

Coach John Wooden once said, “What counts, is what you learn after you know it all.” That’s because the more you learn, the less you think you have to learn.

You are never too old to learn to be wise! If you’re alive…You are never too young

2. A Proverb a Day Builds Wisdom

In my estimation, of the Bible’s 66 Books, Proverbs is the most provocative. If it’s true that good judgement is caught, not taught, then Proverbs drops pearls. More than 2 dozen centuries before Sigmund Freud and Psychological profiling, this set of 31 chapters outstrips human understanding with insights into sex, anger management, slander, wealth, m welfare, business ethics, intoxication, pride, and subtle human fissures as relevant as today and tomorrows blogs.

Read,, meditate, and memorize God’s Word daily

Proverbs 2:6-7 NIV – For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,

Proverbs 1:7 NIV – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools[a] despise wisdom and instruction

“People do not reject the Bible because it contradicts itself but because it contradicts them.”

Mark Twain said, “It ain’t the those parts of the Bible that I can’t understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand.”

Proverbs 15:14 NLT – A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash.

3. Right relationships Increase your Wisdom

Proverbs 13:20 NIV – Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.

Dr. Carl Menger said, “Our environment shapes us more than our heredity”

I Corinthians 15:33 NIV – Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”

Proverbs 12:15 NIV – The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.

Relationships will either propel you or sustain you. People are like elevators they take you up or bring you down. So wrong relationships are thieves to your success

Pursue Wise Relationships: Those who build your faith and confidence, value who you are, challenge you to greatness, and are there when down and when your up.

Proverbs 11:14 AMP – Where there is no [wise, intelligent] guidance, the people fall [and go off course like a ship without a helm], But in the abundance of [wise and godly] counselors there is victory.

Run from Foolish relationships: those who are critical then complimentary, those who belittle you and your dreams, those who humiliate and embarrass you, those who gossip, bicker, and backbite you.

•Have the ability to disconnect from unqualified people who decrease your life.

4. When you Increase Your Wisdom You Will Increase Your Wealth

Proverbs 8:18, 21 NIV – With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity. 21 bestowing a rich inheritance on those who love me and making their treasuries full.

“Empty the money of your wallet into your mind and your mind will fill your wallet with money” Ben Franklin

Warren Buffet said the most important investment you can make is in yourself.

Psalm 112:1-3 NIV – Praise the Lord.[b] Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands. Their children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. 3 Wealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever.

Proverbs 3:16 NIV – Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.

NOW DO IT!

Proverbs 4:20-22 NLT – My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. 21 Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, 22 for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.

Don’t let wisdom just  lead to knowledge – let it lead to action!

The way to get to the top is to get off your bottom.

James 1:22-25 NLT – But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23 For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

Solomon tells us throughout Proverbs to seek wisdom as if it were hidden treasure. True wisdom is rarely found lying on the ground in plain view. Rather, it’s a treasure that just be searched out, and those seeking it must often dig beneath the surface. But it’s not a difficult pursuit. It’s fun to search for buried treasure, and its wonderfully rewarding to find it.

You can grow old- without ever growing up! WISDOM IS A CHOICE… GROWTH … Happiness…. Success…

Are you going to DO anything about what we just talked about? If not, you just wasted an hour.

God doesn’t bless good intentions. He blesses WISE CHOICE – GOD SAYS  IT’S YOUR MOVE!   YOUR CHOICE – Will you do the wise thing?
