God is able and willing to work miracles in and through any person who has a heart to believe in His unlimited power and unlimited possibilities. Miracles are for YOU today!

Psalm 77:14 NIV – You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.

Declaration:

“God wants my life to be full of Miracles. My Life itself is a Miracle. Miracles are happening to me continuously . I wake daily and experience the miracle of living. My miracles are expanding and accelerating. Today I expect and happily receive miracles.”

There is NO such thing as a hopeless situation. Every single circumstance of your life can change.

Miracle – an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs. A supernatural manifestation of divine power in the external world. a spontaneous expression of God’s elemental power.

Acts 10:44 NIV – While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.

Something IMMEDIATELY happened when they HEARD the WORD OF GOD. 

Romans 10:17 ESV So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

If what you hear preached doesn’t cause faith to come and build faith in your spirit, then it either isn’t the Word of God or else you’re not hearing it

1. God’s Word is Everything God is (Miraculous, Spirit, Breath, Life, Presence, Power)

John 1:1-5 NIV – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.

John 6:63 NIV – The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. 

2 Timothy 3:14-16 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

Inspiration is compound of the words “Theos” (God) and “Pneuma” (Spirit) – God Breathed – Inspiration of God

God’s Word is not the product of elevated human consciousness or enlightened human intellect. This is God breathing HIS very own breath and presence into something.

2. God’s Word has the ability to create, destroy, and perfect

Hebrews 11:3 NIV – By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

•We use words to describe, God uses Words to Create (Genesis 1)

Colossians 1:16 NIV – For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

Mark 11:12-14, 22-24 NIV12 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it. 22 “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23 “Truly[d] I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

•Your Mountain needs to hear God’s Word and Your Voice

By getting God’s Word deep into your spirit and speaking it boldly out your mouth, you release spiritual power to change things in the natural circumstances.

3. God’s Word is Living (All 66 books, 1, 189 Chapters, 31, 273 Verses)

Hebrews 4:12 NLT – For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Isaiah 40:8 NIV – The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.

Matthew 24:35 NIV – Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

I Peter 1:23-25 NIV – For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.24 For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”[a] And this is the word that was preached to you.

Abideth – To dwell, To remain, to last

4. God will Perform His Word

•Perform – to carry out an action or pattern of behavior; To begin and carry through to completion;

•Believing God’s word means What God says will come to pass

• Instead of believing what you see – Choose to believe what Jesus said!

Jeremiah 1:12 ESV – Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.”

Isaiah 55:8-11 NIV – “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it

Ezekiel 12:28 NIV – Therefore say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: None of my words will be delayed any longer; whatever I say will be fulfilled, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”

Hebrews 10:35-38 ESV – Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. 37 For, “Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay;38 but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.”

5. God’s Word Can Produce Immediate Miracles

•Immediately – without delay

•Quit saying WHEN, and Start saying NOW

•Faith says I have it NOW – Hope says I’ll get it later. Bring your Faith into the NOW Realm.

Hebrews 11:1 KJV “NOW faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Amplified – NOW faith is the assurance (the confirmation, [a]the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].

“If you believe”….Numerous times in the Bible we are told that if we only believe THEN God will fulfill His promises. It starts with believing. There is incredible power in belief.

Ephesians 3:20 NKJV – NOW to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

In the Amplified version is says:…His power is able to do superabundantly, far over and above all that we dare ask or think {infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams}

WE can Expect Immediate Miracles

Psalm 31:5 NIV – Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.

Psalm 69:17 NIV – Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble.

Psalm 79:8 NIV – Do not hold against us the sins of past generations; may your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need.

Psalm 102:2 NIV – Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly.

What has taken time, can begin to happen IMMEDIATELY – We have a right to believe God for Immediate miracles

The Proof of Immediate Miracles 

Proof – the establishment of the truth of anything; demonstration. establishes validity

Luke 5:24-25 NIV 24 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God.

Acts 14:8-10 NIV In Lystra there sat a man who was lame. He had been that way from birth and had never walked. He listened to Paul as he was speaking. Paul looked directly at him, saw that he had faith to be healed 10 and called out, “Stand up on your feet!” At that, the man jumped up and began to walk.

Acts 3:1-9 NIV – One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God,

Mark 5:21-29, 38-42 NIV  When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.

38-42- When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40 But they laughed at him.After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished

Our words have the power of life and death, and all of us have felt the effects of words spoken over our lives whether good and bad. What matters most is what words you choose believe!

In the beginning, God spoke the world into existence…with his words God created the Earth…the land and the sea and everything in it. For seven days…He moved through the creative process with intentional words….words that gave direction to the process of creation. You and I were created in Gods image… Our words also have creative power….for good and for evil. To tear down and to build up. To make a mountain or to move a mountain.

Words were an important element in God’s work of creation. The plan of creation had been set in place, but God had to speak the words before it could become a visible reality. (Genesis 1) – Words carry creative power! We use words to describe, but God uses words to create! (Rom.4:17 – calling those things)

Proverbs 18:21 NIV – The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit 

(Message) Words Kill, Words Give Life;  They’re Either Poison Or Fruit—You Choose…)

TODAY I WANT TO TALK ABOUT HOW WORDS CREATE LIMITS OR LIBERTY IN OUR LIFE….HOW WORDS HOLD US BACK OR MOVE US FORWARD…

The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightening and a lightening bug – mark twain

1)A VERBAL PRISON IS WORDS THAT HOLD US BACK FROM THE BIGGER, THE BETTER, THE PROGRESS, THE INCREASE THAT GOD HAS FOR US.

Matthew 12:37 NIV – For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned. 

Message – Let me tell you something: Every one of these careless words is going to come back to haunt you. There will be a time of Reckoning. Words are powerful; take them seriously. Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation.”

Jesus is comparing the power of words to the power of a judicial process….

• To be condemned for a crime meant you would be incarcerated.

• To be acquitted of a crime meant you would be set free

Jesus is saying that the same way a jury has power to condemn you or liberate you….words contain us and hold us hostage…

EXAMPLE: Lets imagine that you have a 9 yr old son/daughter that comes home from school with math homework…your trying to help him with his homework and he’s telling you how he’s not good at Math….that he hates math….that he’s not smart enough to do math….

THESE ARE CONDEMNING WORDS.

THESE ARE WORDS THAT BUILD A PRISON

OF FALSE PERCEPTION IN A CHILDS LIFE….

QUESTION – Hopefully as a parent you now know that the first issue you have to change is what he is saying about himself…

All of us haven’t gotten in trouble with our mouths.

(James 3:2 NIV) “We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check.”

James says, if you can control your mouth, you’re perfect He’s not talking about sinless.The word “perfection” in Greek literally means “mature/healthy”

When you go to the doctor and say, “I’m not feeling well,” The first thing he says is, “Stick out your tongue.” Your tongue reveals what’s going on inside of you. Not just true physically – but spiritually too

The truth is that everyone in this service….has spoke limitations over your life that was only self imposed limitations.

EX: I don’t like working with women…

EX: I don’t think I can ever trust men…

EX: I’m not good with people…

EX: I’ve tried to lose weight and I can’t…

EX: I hate health food…

EX: I hate to exercise….

EX: I don’t think you have to go to church to be a Christian…

EX: I’m not into the church thing…

EX: I have a hard time getting up on Sundays…

EX: I don’t like churches…

EX: I hate technology…

EX: I don’t need more money…

EX: I’m stuck where I am…

EX: If God wants me to have a better job he will give it to me

Joel 3:10 NIV – Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weakling say, “I am strong!”

There’s something significant in this verse…..If you are weak….you wont get strong by talking about being weak. You can only get strong by saying I am strong!! The point is NOT that you don’t have to do anything else….in fact it says Beat your plowshares into swords….and pruning hooks into spears…The point is that the right words will empower you as you step out to take on challenges in your life!

• Talking about your problems won’t make your problems go away.

• Talking sickness wont make you well

• Talking defeat won’t bring you victory.

• Talking poor wont help you prosper

• If you need solutions stop talking about your problems and start talking about solutions!!

• If you need better health…stop talking about your sickness and start talking about healthy living

• If you want to be an overcomer stop talking about difficulty’s and defeat…and start talking about overcoming…

  • If you want to prosper…stop the “poor talk”….the “we don’t have much” talk….the “we cant afford to” talk….go to work on your plans…be diligent in your budget…give God your tithe….and speak Gods blessing and favor over your life!!!….over your finances!!

2) THERES TWO WAYS THAT WORDS HOLD US BACK. THE WORDS WE HEAR AND THE WORDS WE SPEAK

2 Corinthians 4:13 NIV  It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.”[a] Since we have that same spirit of[b] faith, we also believe and therefore speak,

All of us have had good and bad spoken over our lives.

• For every negative thing someone else has proclaimed about you, God has proclaimed something good….positive.

• For every degrading comment someone else spoke over you, God

has spoken words of high value….

• For every word someone said that imposed boundaries and limitations on your potential….God has spoken words to remove those

limitations…..and move those boundaries….and set you free to be

everything he created you to be.

What matters most is what words you believe!!….WHAT YOU INTERNALIZE…THAT BECOMES PART OF YOUR INTERNAL DIALOUGUE.

• Are you gonna believe the degrading things someone said when they were angry?…..when they didn’t know what else to say?…your kids at school?…who taunted and teased and bullied you?….or are you gonna rise up and believe GODS WORD SPOKEN OVER YOU?

Are you gonna stay bound in prisons of low self worth?….prisons of low expectation?…or are you going to rise up in a spirit of faith and break out of those verbal prisons?…

Prov. 25:11 (NKJV) A Word Fitly Spoken Is Like Apples Of Gold In Settings Of Silver.

3) OUTSIDE THIS PRISON ARE THINGS LIKE BETTER HEALTH, IMPROVED AND NEW RELATIONSHIPS, ANSWERS TO PRAYER, FINANCIAL OPPORTUNITIES AND NEW BEGINNINGS WITH GOD

The truth is that everyone in this service….has spoke limitations over your life that was self imposed prophecies.

Isa 35:1-2, 6-7 NIV – The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the Lord, the splendor of our God. 6 Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy. Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert. 7  The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground bubbling springs. In the haunts where jackals once lay, grass and reeds and papyrus will grow.

EX: Most people know that in the Middle East there’s a large battle over

land between the Jews and the Muslims. If you visit there you can see

that in this region there are small areas of forest looking growth in

desert like places….The reason for that is that there are 2 different beliefs

about the land…2 different visions for the land. The Muslims believe this land is cursed by Allah and the Jews believe this desert area is blessed by God. That he has declared the desert to be a fertile land….a place of life.

QUESTION– Is there areas in your life that you’ve believed were hopeless….and impossible? Places where you have self imposed prophecies a negative report about that God wants to What have you said…that has built walls, boundaries…borders on your life?

Some of you have negative ideas, opinions that keeping you back from the great things God has for you…..

• So you hold back in moments when you could step out!!

• You’re invited to take steps of salvation…new beginnings but you’ve held back…

• Now you’ve formed a habit of saying no…not yet…I’m ok where I am…

Your future does not respond to anyone’s voice but your own 

Mark 11:23 ESV – Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.

We are not missing it in our believing, we are missing it with our words – Your mountains need to hear your voice!

Start saying things you want to happen in your life, not what you don’t want to happen! Jesus said to speak to the mountain, not about the mountain.  Jesus said you can have what you say, but you have been saying what you have.

The Words we speak indicate what we believe in our hearts and ultimately determine what we will receive in life

Proverbs 23:7 NKJV “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…”

The Bible says taste and see that the Lord is good!!

• Maybe today is the day for you to take a bold step …and experience

what God has for you!

• We are all going to pray a prayer of new beginnings…

• It’s an opportunity for you to experience what you’ve been missing out on!!….let God know that you want what he has for you!!…

Psalm 19:14 NIV May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

REMEMBER We decide if we want lips of life or tongues of trouble!~ 

(Romans 10:9-10)  “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”

Introduction: 

The world we currently live in has changed whether we like it or not. In JRR Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring, Galadriel, the Elf queen says about the change happening in middle earth; “The world has changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. Much that once was is lost…

Yes the world has changed. We are living in an increasingly post christian culture. America was once a christian nation whose values were aligned with judeo christian values and ethics. Charles Dickens penned this opening statement in his classic, A Tale of Two Cities;

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair…

The World around us has drastically changed over the past 40 years or so. In our increasingly post christian culture, the influences and values shaping emerging generations are no longer aligned with Christianity.

Tolerance? Tolerance may be a virtue and buzz word in todays culture but its not extended to Christianity.

•we are driven from public life

•denied 1st amendment rights

•actively discriminated against for our beliefs

We live in a quickly changing world. You might feel safe in the church world you and I live in, but step outside into the real world and things aren’t quite the same anymore.

So How should we live in this world in the last days?  The Call is to Live Biblically. To live as Christ lived.

1 John 2:6 LB  “Anyone who says he’s a Christian should live as Christ did.”

I Peter 2:21 NIV To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.”    WWJD?

What does it mean to be a Christian?

  1. Jesus explained what it meant to be a Christian in Matthew 16:24 (NLT). He said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must put aside your selfish ambition, shoulder your cross, and follow me.” 
    1. Put aside your selfish ambition – The desires we naturally have are in opposition to that which God desires (Gal. 5:16-17). But the Holy Spirit makes us a new person (2 Cor. 5:17) and gives us new desires (Rom. 8:9).
    2. Shoulder (Carry) your cross – The cross as a vivid pic that the disciples fully understood. To take up your cross meant to face death spiritually & possibly physically. Our sinful way of life dies (Rom. 6:6, Gal. 5:24) and Christ’s new life lives in us (Gal. 2:20). And for some, following Christ would cost them their lives physically.
      1. To sacrifice is to give up something for the sake of something else that is much better.
      2. What is my cross? The place of our greatest pain

The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places. Ernest Hemingway

  1. Follow me – To be a Christian, we must follow Christ. We must act the way he acted. We must speak the way he spoke. We must love the way he loved.
    1. Embrace God’s will no matter what the cost

I love Jesus, but sometimes “Christians” frustrate me. Why? They fight & argue about the dumbest things. Too judgmental, act holier than thou, incredibly condescending.

1. With Humility 

Humility – Modest opinion of one’s own importance or rank. To lower oneself; lowly; abasing yourself, “down to earth”.

“Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less. . . . Humble people are so focused on serving others, they don’t think of themselves.” – Rick Warren

Humility – The discipline of putting others ahead of self -the choice to value others above self – its a matter of faith

“Humility is self-forgetfulness.” – C.S. Lewis

Matt. 5:3 NLT “God blesses those who realize their need for him…” 

It recognizes how inadequate we are by ourselves.

James 4:10 NIV “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up”. 

People who are not humble think they know everything, no one can correct them, and they believe they have the answers to everything

Matt. 11:29 NIV “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

2. With Simplicity 

Freedom from complexity. We live mismanaged lifestyles

Luke 12:15 NIV “Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

•We have become slaves to our belongings – St Francis of Assisi insisted that true freedom lies in the abundance of life, not the abundance of possessions. Many times those possessions that we have acquired exercise power over us.

Matt. 16:26 NLT “How do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your soul in the process? Is anything worth more than your soul?”

Living simply means that we carefully examine what it means to fully live. How? By focusing our efforts on things that are true, beautiful, and essential. Like Faith, Family, Healthy, Friends, and our Church, our Community

Psalms 131:1-2 Amp Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty; neither do I exercise myself in matters too great or in things too wonderful for me. Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me [ceased from fretting].

•’I think the devil has made it his business to monopolize on 3 elements: noise, hurry, crowds… Satan is quite aware of the power of silence.”

•”The Value of our western culture demands us to be busy…”

Eccl. 7:29 – “God made man simple: man’s complex problems are of his own devising”

“To much clutter in your mind leaves insufficient room for devotion to Christ” Remember – You NO to others will soon translate into a YES for God!

3. With Possibility (Faith)

Potentiality for favorable or interesting results.

Faith is… To have trust or assurance, confidence, conviction, belief, reliance in what God says. Trust that produces actions.

Matt. 19:26 NLT With God everything is possible.”

Mark 9:23 NIV “Everything is possible for him who believes.”

•Believing when I donʼt see it. 

(Hebrews 11:1)  “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and 

certain of what we do not see.” 

“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

•Obeying when I donʼt understand it. 

(Hebrews 11:7 NLT)  “It was by faith that Noah built an ark to save 

his family from the flood.  He obeyed God, who warned him about 

something that had never happened before.” 

•Persisting when I donʼt feel like it. 

(Hebrews 11:27)  “By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the kingʼs 

anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.”

Love is ever ready to believe the best of every person. Natural human love requires a person to prove themselves before love is given. However, Christ-like love offers itself to those who are both lovable and unlovable. Instead of assuming the worst, it tirelessly looks for the best in others. True love hopes all things and lives with an expectant faith towards others.

How?

Here’s what you need to know before the End of the World

1. God loves us and does not want us to perish.

John 3:16,17 — For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

1 Timothy 2:4 — [God] desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

2. All people have sinned. Sin causes separation from God.

Romans 3:23 — For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

James 2:10 — For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.

3. Heaven is a free gift. You cannot earn or deserve heaven.

Romans 6:23 — For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 2:8,9 — For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast.

4. We receive God’s forgiveness through faith, by trusting in Christ.

John 1:12 — But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become the children of God, to those who believe in His name.

Romans 10:9,10 — …if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

The end is coming. Are we ready for the day when it all comes crashing down and nothing is left but the countdown to the end of the world? In this series we will talk about ways that we can get ready for the end and start living for the beginning of the rest of our lives.

There’s something about these end of the world stories that fascinates us, frightens us and keeps us coming back for more. The theme that inspires is survival. Against all odds, when all hope is lost, humanity grabs hold of courage, defies the enemy and turns the tide.How will you survive the end of the world?

(Matthew 24:1-6 NIV) “Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 1. Don’t Be Alarmed, Don’t Be Troubled

Jesus wants us to be calm, quiet spirited, not worried, and not to be deceived.

(2 Peter 3:3-10 NIV) First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ʻcomingʼ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.”

Writing this letter near the end of his life, Peter wanted to remind Christians that the final day is real. He calls it “the day of the Lord” and reminds his Christian readers that it is unquestionably coming.

To scoff means to speak in a scornful or mocking way. What do scoffers think about the end? In verse 4, Peter says that the false teachers mock the promise of Christ’s return and a final judgment. “Where is it?” they ask. “Ever since the days of the ancient patriarchs the world has gone on without interruption.” The scoffers claim that God has not and will not intervene in world history.

How do we know?

√ People will do their own thing. 

(Me focused, materialistic, Selfie Centered)

(Matthew 24:37-39 NIV) “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away.”

√ People will forget God.

(Matthew 24:12 NIV) “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.”

Many will turn away from the Faith, against the Faith, Twist the Faith, & Tune out the Faith. Have Misplaced Priorities.

√ People will think Heʼs not coming.

(1 Thessalonians 5:2 NIV) “For you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.”

√ People will not be ready.

(Matthew 24:40-42 NIV) “Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”

If the end is near…

1.I should pray.

(1 Peter 4:7 NIV) “The end of all things is near, therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.”

Anytime God wanted something done on the earth he calls someone to pray!

Luke 21:36 NIV –  Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

Real prayer is driven by relationship not need or crisis.

U can dump your junk. God gets bigger, your junk gets smaller.

Causes u to b more focused minded

a. Make it personal not formal.

(Matthew 6:7-8 NIV) And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

b. Pray with confidence.

(Hebrews 4:15-16 NIV) For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are —yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

2.I should focus on my relationships.

(1 Peter 4:8-9 NIV) “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.”

Relationships are far more important than issues or disagreements. Get over those quickly.

a. What relationship needs to be initiated

(Luke 6:13 NIV) “When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them…” 

  b.  What relationship needs to be nurtured

(Galatians 5:13-15 NIV) “Serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.” 

c. What relationship needs to be restored

(Ephesians 4:3 NIV) “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

3. I should get my life right with God.

(2 Peter 3:11 NIV) “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly

lives.”

(Matthew 24:42 NIV) Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 

(Romans 10:9-10 NIV) “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”

4.Share Christ with urgency

(Luke 12:16-21 NCV) “The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I’ll say to myself, ‘You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God.”

Conclusion

Just as there was a beginning, there will be an end. We will not be reincarnated. We live once, we will die once and then we will stand before God. For unbelievers, today is the day to believe in him and turn from sin. For believers, today is the day to live lives of godliness and holiness so that we are ready for that final day.

What if we have it all wrong about God? What if we’ve spent our lives seeing Him in one way when in reality, the diety we imagine is nothing like our God? Imagine leaving this world and meeting Him face to face only to discover that He isn’t at all like we’ve been told.

What if our well-intended but misguided religious education has contaminated our understanding of who God really is and has left us with a perspective about Him that hardly resembles the Father whom Jesus came to reveal?

Can you imagine such a thing? I can because it’s happening to me. I know I’ve had it wrong for a very long time, and I know I’m not alone. Our prevalent opinion about God is polluted.

(1 Timothy 1:3-4 NIV)  As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith

-(These things only lead to meaningless speculations, which don’t help people live a life of faith in God.”)

There is a contaminated concept of God that has incapacitated us in our own grace walk and hampered our sincere efforts to see other people come to know and follow Christ.

Human inquiry into the divine has produced a vast pantheon of gods — from Ares to Zeus.

I Corinthians 15:34 MSG – Ignorance of God is a luxury you can’t afford in times like these

God is A Big God

Isaiah 40:12 NIV – Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?

The Earth – the surface is 196 million square miles; one of 9 planets revolving around the sun.

The distance from the earth to the moon is 240,000 miles

The Sun – It is the closest start to the earth it is 93 million miles away. 865,000 miles across. 109 times the size of the earth. You can fit 1.3 million earth’s inside the sun. The sun is considered an average star in comparison with others in the universe.

•It takes light from the sun traveling at the speed of light approximately 8 minutes to get to earth.

•Every object in our solar system revolves around the sun. SAY WOW!

The Galaxy – Milky Way. 

•200 to 400 billion stars

•200 discovered planets outside of our solar system

•2,500 years to count all the stars just in our galaxy.

The point is this: These incomparable and unfathomable wonders above tell us of a God who is quite simply…indescribable. But People have described Him in ways that is NOT Him

Common Myths about God 

Myth 1. God is angry. / Truth: God is Merciful

(Micah 7:18) “Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.”

Christianity grounded in the confession that Jesus is the icon of the invisible God. I am in full sympathy with those who find a “Sinners In the Hands of An Angry God” Christianity repellent and in need of being jettisoned. I have pitched the theologies of an angry, retributive deity back into the dark sea of paganism. The good news is that buried under centuries of misconstrued Christianity there is a beautiful gospel just waiting to be discovered.

(Psalm 103:9-10) “He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.”

Do not freeze frame a certain time in your life and condemn your future based on that moment. God is not done with you!

Myth 2. God is distant. / Truth: God is Here

(Acts 17:26-28) From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’[a] As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

Myth 3. God is Critical / Truth: God is Gracious

  1. Discover who God is.

(Ephesians 1:17) “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”

What if God is like Jesus? What if the personality of God is identical to the personality of the man called Jesus of Nazareth portrayed in the Gospels? You can find who God is when you look at Jesus 

(I Timothy 3:16 Amp) “And great and important and weighty, we confess, is the hidden truth (the mystic secret) of godliness. He [[a]God] was made visible in human flesh, justified and vindicated in the [Holy] Spirit, was seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, [and] taken up in glory.”

Jesus made an audacious claim:

John 14:9 ESV  Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

What if that claim is true? Wouldn’t that be good news?

Jesus is the exact representation of God’s Nature

Hebrews 1:1-3 The MSG -Going through a long line of prophets, God has been addressing our ancestors in different ways for centuries. Recently he spoke to us directly through his Son. By his Son, God created the world in the beginning, and it will all belong to the Son at the end. This Son perfectly mirrors God, and is stamped with God’s nature. He holds everything together by what he says—powerful words!

He was not a man who became God, He is God who became a man

What is God like? A punishing judge? A doting grandfather? A deadbeat dad? A vengeful warrior? Reject the toxic images of God in your own hearts and minds.

God is like Jesus. Jesus is the Message of God. Jesus is what God has to say. Jesus is the full and faithful witness to how God is to be understood. Jesus didn’t come to save us from God (as some deplorable theories would lead us to believe) — Jesus came to reveal God as savior. Jesus didn’t come to enable God to love us — Jesus came to reveal God as love. Jesus didn’t come to reconcile God to the world — Jesus came to reconcile the world to God.

Surrender is not the best way to live; it is the only way to live. Nothing else works. All other approaches lead to frustration, disappointment, and self-destruction.

So give it all to God: your past regrets, your present problems, your future ambitions, your fears, dreams, weaknesses, habits, hurts, and hang-ups. Put Christ in the driver’s seat of your life, and take your hands off the steering wheel. Don’t be afraid; nothing under his control can ever be out of control.

•Knowing God will transform our nature and character 

 II Corinthians 3:18 (amp) – “And all of us, as with unveiled face, (because we) continued to behold (in the word of God) as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor & from one degree of glory to another; (for this comes) from the Lord (Who is) the Spirit.”

a. Knowing God  means to Seek Him – To know God means to constantly be searching Him out in His Word.  The word “behold” in t his passage means “to continually explore and look into.”

b. Knowing him produces Change

c. •The Proof of God’s Power is not in an explanation but in a changed life

Be Assured 

•(Hebrews 10:22)  “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith…”

A person’s perception of understanding of the nature of God will determine their level of faith in His ability or desire to help them

1. God is there. 

  •(Psalm 139:7-8 “Where can I go from your Spirit?  Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” 

•(Hebrews 13:5)  “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

•(Hebrews 4:13 LB) “He knows about everyone, everywhere. Everything about us is bare and wide open to the all-seeing eyes of our living God; nothing can be hidden from Him…” 

2. God is never late. 

2 Timothy 4:18 NIV “The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

Philippians 1:6 NAS  “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”

 (Acts 16:25-26)  “About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.  Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybodyʼs chains came loose.” 

3. God knows best. 

•(Hebrews 11:39-40)  “These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised.  God had planned something better…” 

 (Isaiah 55:8-9 LB)  “This plan of mine is not what you would work out, neither are my thoughts the same as yours!  For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than yours, and my thoughts than yours.” 

4. God cares. 

•(James 5:11 Message)  “Youʼve heard, of course, of Jobʼs staying power, and you know how God brought it all together for him at the end. That’s because God cares, cares right down to the last detail.”

Getting Our Attention

Jim Bakker, the televangelist who built the huge PTL empire spent 5 years in prison for mail fraud and for bilking his followers out of millions of dollars. In his book called, I Was Wrong, he admits that his whole view of God was faulty. As he recounts his spiritual journey behind bars, he finally comes to the conclusion that God sent him to prison for a very specific purpose. He had become so concerned with building a name for himself that he somewhere along the way forgot all about God. According to Bakker, God sent him to prison so that he could get to know God for who He really is. It’s as simple as that.

If knowing God is that important, I wonder what He’ll have to do to get our attention? Our biggest problem is not that God isn’t speaking, it’s that we’re so busy we can’t — or won’t — slow down long enough to hear His voice. Psalm 46:10 urges us to “Be still and know that I am God.”

What then should we do? Hosea 6:3 challenges us to “…press on to acknowledge the Lord.” To press on means to move toward the goal with undiminished vigor. It means to set your focus on knowing our Knowable God ­ and letting nothing get in your way. Do you have a passion and vigor for God this morning? 

Tony Evans uses a great illustration: “I can’t fully explain what it means to know God. I can use the terms, but it’s like defining a kiss. Webster calls a kiss ‘a caress with the lips; a gentle touch or contact.’ But anyone who has kissed someone knows that a kiss is really much more than that. You can’t explain it, but Lord have mercy, it’s good when you get it! I can’t fully explain what getting to know God feels like, but I know that you will like it when it happens. (Our God is Awesome, p. 34)

Friends, you will never understand God until you begin to know Him personally. I can’t define it fully, but when you encounter God Almighty, your life will never be the same again. Which is why Psalm 34:8 says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” He is good ­and He’s good all the time, but you’ll never know until you taste Him for yourself!

My Prayer for you

Ephesians 1:17 NIV “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”

Jeremiah 29:13 NIV “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Everybody surrenders to something or someone in life. If not to God, you’ll surrender to popular opinion, money, resentment, or fear, to your own pride, lust, and ego.

Surrender is not the best way to live; it is the only way to live. Nothing else works. All other approaches lead to frustration, disappointment, and self-destruction.

So give it all to God: your past regrets, your present problems, your future ambitions, your fears, dreams, weaknesses, habits, hurts, and hang-ups. Put Christ in the driver’s seat of your life, and take your hands off the steering wheel. Don’t be afraid; nothing under his control can ever be out of control.

Prayer of Commitment

I’d like you to stand this morning and we’re going to pray a prayer together. This prayer originally appeared in A.W. Tozer’s book called, “The Knowledge of the Holy.”

“O majesty unspeakable, my soul desires to behold Thee. I cry to Thee from the dust. Yet when I inquire after Thy name it is secret. Thou art hidden in the light which no man can approach unto. What Thou art cannot be thought or uttered, for Thy glory is beyond comprehension.

Still, prophet and psalmist, apostle and saint have encouraged me to believe that I may in some measure know Thee. Lucy and Linus are gazing out the window at a staggering downpour of rain.

“Boy, look at it rain, ” Lucy says, fear etched on her face. “What if it floods the whole world?”   “It will never do that, Linus responds confidently. “In the 9th Chapter of Genesis, God promised Noah that would never happen again, and the sign of the promise is the rainbow.”   “You’ve taken a great load of my mind, ” Lucy says with a sigh of relief. Linus replies, “Sound theology has a way of doing that.”

That is my aim in this message today! To articulate the good theology (study of God) that  God is a good God contrary to what someone may have said about Him, or our past perceptions.

I googled God. turns out there are 564 million results. My conclusion after the first few pages….Everyone has an opinion about God. 

Problem in America today is that Christianity is 3000 miles wide and 1 inch deep. We need to leave the kiddy pool of christianity and launch out into the deep!

We really have a warped society that believes God is dead and Elvis is alive.

AW Tozer said, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”

If you know Him as He is – – loving, kind, gentle, giving, generous, and liberal – – then you would not hesitate to ask from Him all that you need!

I. What You Must Know about God

1. God is Powerful

Isaiah 40:28-31 ESV – Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 44:24 NIV – This is what the Lord says— your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb:I am the Lord, the Maker of all things,who stretches out the heavens, who spreads out the earth by myself,

Isaiah 45:12 NIV – It is I who made the earth and created mankind on it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts.

Augustine said, “The very order, disposition, beauty, change, and motion of the world and of all visible things silently proclaim that it could only have been made by God.”

The Bible connects the name of the Lord or God or Jesus or the Spirit with “good” or “goodness” 370 Times.

Psalm 34:8 ESV – Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

God cannot cease from doing good, because HE is GOOD!

Psalm 103:1-5 ESV – Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s

3. God is Gracious and Merciful

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–not by works, so that no one can boast.”

•Grace is God giving people credit for something they didn’t do!

II. What God Wants You to Know about HIM

1. To know that God loves me.

Lamentations 3:21-23 NIV – “Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORDʼs great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

2. To know that God has a plan for me.

Jeremiah 29:11 NIV  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

2 Corinthians 4:16-17 NIV – “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”

3. To know that God will bring me through.

Luke 19:37-40 ESV37 As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, 38 saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” 39 And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” 40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”

What is worship?

Worship means to “attribute worth to an object”. Worship is not defined in the Bible but its meaning can be determined from the terms employed and the context of the passages. In the New Testament the most common word is ‘proskuneo’ which means to revere and is from two Greek words meaning ‘kiss towards’. Another word often used – ‘sebomai’ – is derived from a word meaning fear or revere.

John 4:23-24 NIV – Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

It doesn’t say we can worship God anyway we want, but we “must worship Him in spirit and in truth”. The word “must” makes it absolute. There is no other way we can worship God and be acceptable to Him. The word “must”, according to Webster, expresses “an obligation, a requirement, a necessity, a certainty, and something that must be done”. When “must” is used it means that it is not optional.

Since God is the object of our worship, He and He alone has the right to determine how we are to worship Him.

Jeremiah 10:23 NIV , Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps.

We are not granted the option of directing our own ways in religion. God is the One who we look to for guidance and direction in our lives. The worship God has prescribed is the only way we can be pleasing to Him in this life

example: “You worship God your way, I will worship God my way” – There is NO my way. Only God’s Way

•Worshiping “in spirit” means that you mean it; that you’re worshiping inside out, not just going through the motions.

•Worshiping “in truth” means that you’re worshiping the true God and not some idol you’ve created. And it means you’re being truthful with your words and thoughts that you bring to worship; you’re not trying to put on a religious act to impress someone.

Throughout history, Christians have agreed that several key elements are important in worship:

1) Praise. Giving honor and glory to God with words, songs or art.

2) Confession. Worship means acknowledging who God is (holy and good) and who we are (not so holy and not so good) in relation to him. This means admitting and confessing our sin, and accepting God’s forgiveness.

3) Prayer. In worship, we speak directly to God about what’s on our minds (our needs and the needs of others) and what’s on God’s mind (his desire for love and justice and redemption in the world).

4) Hearing God’s Word. This means reading the Scripture. It also means listening for what God is saying to you through the music, the sermon and everything that happens in worship.

5) Remembering Christ’s sacrifice. This is most clearly done by taking Communion. Thinking about how God saved us from sin is at the very center of our worship.

6) Responding to God’s love. Worship doesn’t end when the service is over. Worship means we leave the service so aware of God’s greatness that we find ways to obey and honor and serve him throughout the week.

How Should We Worship?

Remember: We Must Have a Theocentric View of Worship

Worship is not about us! We are not at the center of worship with our styles, preferences, song choices, etc… It’s not about what we want and what we can get.  Worship is about GOD.

We must be careful that we do not exclude certain forms of worship simply because we are uncomfortable with them.  Rather, we should seek to understand why we are uncomfortable & make adjustments that will challenge our comfort zone

Psalm 103:1 ESV – Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me,  bless his holy name!

Halel – (root for Hallelujah) to rave, boast, to enjoy, celebrate. to audibly praise the Lord, to be clamorously foolish

Psalm 22:26 NIV The poor will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the Lord will praise him—may your hearts live forever!

Psalm 113:1 ESV – Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord!

Yadah – means to worship with raised hands, to throw out the hands. Being active not passive

Psalm 63:4 ESV  So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands

Psalm 134:2 ESV – Lift up your hands to the holy place and bless the Lord!

Barak – to bless by kneeling or bowing in a worshipful attitude and declare God as our total source of blessing, prosperity, power, strength, and victory. (an expectation to receive that blessing from God)

Psalm 96:5 ESV – Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!

I Chronicles 29:20 ESV– Then David said to all the assembly, “Bless the Lord your God.” And all the assembly blessed the Lord, the God of their fathers, and bowed their heads and paid homage to the Lord and to the king.

Shabach – to address in a loud tone, to shout unto the Lord. A loud vocal expression of Victory, crying out to God in a loud praise.

Psalm 47:1 ESV – Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy!

Tehillah – exuberant singing. Throughout scriptures we are to celebrate audibly and we can do that by singing. Whether you have a voice of an angel or a bullfrog – SING!

Psalm 34:1 NIV “I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.”

Psalm 30:4 ESV – Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name

One Result of Praise & Worship To God

1. Our Spiritual Enemies (problems) are Silenced

Psalms 8:1-2 NKJV – O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your  name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! 2  Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

Silence – To cause to fail, to put down, to take away. When we Worship God we cause the enemy to fail!

•3 Different Armies had gathered against Judah and Jehoshaphat was faced with insurmountable odds . He receives prophetic strategy from a 14 yr old Musician / Worship Leader

2 Chronicles 20:21-22 ESV  And when he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who were to sing to the Lord and praise him in holy attire, as they went before the army, and say,“Give thanks to the Lord, for his steadfast love endures forever.” 22 And when they began to sing and praise, the Lord set an ambush against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah, so that they were routed.

God’s Mercy is in the destruction of our spiritual enemies (Problems)

Psalms 143:12 ESV – And in your steadfast love you will cut off my enemies, and you will destroy all the adversaries of my soul, for I am your servant.

Your Praise To God changes your Position from being under problems to being over them

I Peter 2:1-5, 9 NIV – Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. Researcher George Barna posed that question to a survey group and found that only 40% of Americans (2 out of 5) believe that Satan is a living being.

In his book, “What Americans Believe,” he revealed that 69% of Catholics, and 65% of mainline Protestant church-goers believe the notion of Satan is only symbolic of evil.

Satan’s best defense is the successful delusion of man into thinking he does not really exist.

Every type of religion has its concept of good and evil, except Satanism & humanism

Satanism – innate wickedness; obsession with or affinity for evil; specifically :  worship of Satan marked by the travesty of Christian rites

Humanism – a system of values and beliefs that is based on the idea that people are basically good and that problems can be solved using reason instead of religion. a philosophy that rejects supernaturalism. It’s godless. Its the foundation of atheism. man is the center of all things. No absolute truth.

Main source of evil today comes from Satan and his fall

Isaiah 14:12-14  NIV – How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly… I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.”

•Lucifer (daystar, son of the morning) He is one of three archangels mentioned in Scripture. He was created by God just as all angels were, but his role was different from the other angelic hosts. Lucifer was referred to as the ‘covering angel.’ Just as the cherubim covered the mercy seat of the Ark of the Covenant, Lucifer was established by God to be the angel of worship, one whose ministry surrounded the heart of heaven. Lucifer was created to dwell eternally in the throne room of heaven, in the very presence of God

•Lucifer became Satan when he tried to make himself not only equal with God but as one above God

•Pride, greed, selfish ambition was his downfall – 5 times he said “I will” – Main problem today when people fall.

His names and titles – Prince and power of the air, Angel of light, Accuser of the brethren, Prince of Darkness, god of this world, thief, wicked one, roaring lion, serpent, murderer, dragon, corrupter, beelzebub, deceiver

(Quote) Proverbs 16:18 – “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty attitude before a fall”

Revelation 12:7-9  NIV – And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down-that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

What are Demons? 

Demons are evil/fallen angels who follow Satan instead of God. When Satan fell out of heaven, the demons fell with him instead of staying in their place as God’s ministers of good. Somehow, evil was found in them. The term demon comes from the Greek “daimon.”  Demons are found in the New Testament as being able to possess people (Matt.  8:28-34; Mark 5:1-4) and animals (Matt. 8:32).  They are very strong (Mark 5:4).  They are also called unclean spirits (Luke 8:29), seem to have a heirarchy of rulership in their demonic realm (Matt. 12:24-27), and can have sacrifices offered to them (1 Cor. 10:20).  Also, they will be judged in the future (Matt. 8:29).  They cannot be redeemed

WHAT DO DEMONS DO?

• DEMONS INFLUENCE THE LEADERS OF NATIONS.

Daniel 10:13 NIV – But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia.

  • DEMONS DESIRE TO INFLICT SUFFERING ON YOU.

Matthew 17:15, 17-18 NIV – “Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water… [Jesus said], “Bring the boy here to me.” Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment.

• DEMONS SCHEME TO LURE YOU AWAY FROM GOD.

1 Timothy 4:1 NIV – The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

  • DEMONS WANT TO PARALYZE YOU WITH FEAR.

2 Timothy 1:6-7 NKJV – For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

BATTLING THE DARKNESS

1. Demons are subject to the Name of Jesus.

Luke 10:17-20 NIV –  The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

Mark 16:17-18 NIV –  “And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

Philippians 2:10 NIV – “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.”

2. WE DON’T FIGHT WITH OUR POWER BUT WITH GOD’S AUTHORITY.

Matthew 10:1 NIV –  (Jesus) called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.

Authority doesn’t beg; authority doesn’t ask; authority commands! We are not told to ask God to cast out demons, we are told to do it ourselves! We are not told to beg demons to come out, we are told to CAST them out!

James 4:7-8 NIV – Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you…

•resist – (military term) oppose, withstand, actively work against

•The greatest power you have against demons is your humility, patience, and persistent pressure of resistance

Authority is exercised through our spoken word. The power of life and death are in the spoken word: Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Matthew 8:16 NIV, “When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word…”

3. Have Faith in God

I John 5:4 NIV – for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

Faith is the apex of your dominion. Faith is simply knowing God. TL Osborne once said, “When you know who God is, what God has and what God can do, then you find out who you are, what you haven and what you can do.” Then it is exposed what your enemy has and what he can do, who he is, what he has, and what he can do, which is nothing. He is dethroned, disrobed, dismantled, defeated by God!

Mark 11:22-24 NIV “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23 “Truly[a] I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Summary

Life is inevitable filled with all manner of struggles on a daily basis. It is critical that we understand who the instigators really are. Evil people are usually little more than pawns under the influence of satanic beings. Therefore, its imperative that we do not war according the flesh but rather utilize our spiritual weapons. It guarantees our victory!

Romans 8:37-39 NIV – “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

I John 4:4 NIV – You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

LET IT GO: Forgiveness By Cierra Yanok Rider

If you guys have your Bibles or smartphone or the Gtown app open up to Matthew 6:10-13. This is a passage in the Bible that everyone should know very well, The Lord’s Prayer…whether you come from a Catholic background or this is your first Sunday, even sports teams in high school recite this prayer. Let’s say the Lord’s prayer together- you can follow along on the screen too-

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,[a]
but deliver us from the evil one.[b]’

Now let me go on and read vs 14-15 for you;

Matthew 6:14-15- 14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

So basically what this is saying is reiterating what Jesus is telling us to pray to him, but how to apply it. We ask Him to forgive us and we forgive those who have hurt us—but Jesus thought it was so important to remind us one more time in v. 14 & 15 by saying…”listen, I want to forgive you, but if you don’t forgive others, I can’t forgive you”

Now lets look at a couple more scriptures on forgiveness real quick-

Mark 11:25- But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too

Colossians 3:13- Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Ephesians 4:31-32- Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Luke 6:37- Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

These are only 4 references to forgiveness..When I was googling how many times the word forgiveness is in the bible it said around 70 times…

Seems to me that God is pretty clear on what he is instructing us to do in the realm of forgiveness. Does anyone have one of those friends who repeats stories a lot or tells you something to do over and over again? Yeah, I have a few..quite a few family members too. But you want to know something? I bet you remember their story. When I was growing up if my mom had to repeat directions to me more than once, I got a spanking, I am thankful God has a little more mercy than the Trish. J

Today I want to address two questions pertaining to forgiveness, the first one being;

1. WHY should I forgive?
2. HOW do I forgive?
Clearly God is telling us to forgive because he has forgiven us, but in all honesty, the number one reason why we should forgive isn’t because of the other person who has wronged us, but–

1. Unforgiveness hurts me

Hebrews 12:15- See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

Unforgiveness causes trouble and bitterness in our hearts—one ounce of bitterness can haunt you for the rest of your life and make you a miserable person and misery loves company. So you and your miserable self will be surrounded by a whole lot of other miserable people.

If you don’t want to end up a miserable old person with 20 cats and bed sores by age 40 than you have to learn to function without holding a grudge. People are going to hurt you, it is inevitable or you might have already been hurt.

I am not trying to downplay anyone’s past hurts or any unforgiveness some of you may be carrying with you today. Some of you have past hurts that include abuse, betrayal, abandonment and much more issues that make you say… “You don’t understand what I have been through” and you are right…I don’t, but I have past hurts of my own. I have had people lie to me, cheat on me, turn their backs on me, hurt my family by forcing us out of a church, call us horrible names and make up nasty rumors about our family to get their way and sadly a lot of these hurts have actually come from growing up in church. I could easily be bitter or never want to step foot into a church again or have chosen to never pursue a relationship with someone again bc of my fear of being hurt again, but I choose to move forward and not let bitterness take root in my heart. If that was the case I would have never met Josh or we would have never started Gracetown here today.

One of the foundations of Christianity is love and if we love one another we keep no record of wrong…while bitterness keeps intense details.

A famous quote by Anne Lamont says “Unforgiveness is like drinking rat poison and hope the other person dies”

I thought that was a pretty tweetable quote.

Now onto the second reason of WHY we should forgive;

2. Because I will need forgiveness again

We see this clearly in what we already read in Matthew 6:14-15 when it says- But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

There is a parable in the Matthew 18 which is just a fancy word for “story that Jesus puts in lamens terms so we understand the lesson”

There was a servant who owed his master 10,000 tallons. Ps-I looked up what tallons were because in my head I imagine bird tallons & I know that’s not right- so if you are like me, now you know that tallons equals 150 years of labor or $2billion in today’s terms. SO back to the servant… There was NO way he could pay the mast back but he BEGGED the master to forgive his debt. The master decided to show mercy and forgive his debt. Shortly after his debt was forgiven, the servant went back to his town and found someone who owed him a day’s wages and demanded his money. The servant who owed him money begged for mercy, but he denied him. Once the master heard word of this servant’s actions of unforgiveness he called upon him in anger & turned him in to the jailers to be tortured until he paid back what he owed.”

At the end of the parable it says-

Matthew 18:35 35 “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”
You are given an option—it says this is what happens UNLESS you forgive.
I don’t know about you, but I would rather forgive someone than be put to jail and beaten.
The message of grace is so widely spread throughout Christianity now which is awesome and so refreshing, but it is amazing how we are SO quick to embrace God’s grace and mercy on our lives but SO SLOW to give the same to others.
Now that we have the WHY let’s look at the HOW
2. HOW do I forgive?
The number one thing to do is pretty simple and self explanatory, but not exactly easy…

1. PRAY for those who hurt you
Not for their Mercedes to get banged up or for them to get herpes or other harm, but for like spiritual stuff…something as simple as “Bless them”

If Jesus Christ who was dying on a cross can look up to God and say “Father, forgive them” towards the people who were crucifying him, then we should be able to sacrificially try to pray for those who have hurt us.

You aren’t going to feel like praying for someone who has hurt you, so don’t wait to “FEEL” like it..you just have to begin.

Sometimes right action triggers right feelings…Start praying and the right attitude will follow.

You may not ever see the result of your prayers for others. The person who has hurt you may not even live near you anymore or even be alive, but it’s not just about them…remember it is about YOU.

I have noticed that my prayers for others may not always change them but it has changed me.

2. Forgive as you have been FORGIVEN…the same way that Christ forgave us;

​He forgives us;

​CONSTANTLY & COMPLETELY

In Matthew 18:21 Peter asked Jesus, How many times do I forgive those who sin against me?
22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times seven[g]

I am like Peter- I’d want to know how many times I have to forgive someone so that I can move on, but Jesus basically says infiniity times…so that is where the “constantly” comes in to play.

The “completely” can look a little different though;

-Sometimes you can forgive completely from a distance.

-Forgiveness doesn’t mean to stay in a hurtful situation.

Growing up I thought if I forgave someone for hurting me we had to go back to being best friends again to “show” that I forgave them, but that isn’t the case…If you are in a situation that you are constantly being hurt mentally, emotionally, sexually or physically, you need to remove yourself from that situation. Staying in an unhealthy relationship whether it is a friendship, work situation or romantic relationship, the first step is to take yourself away from the situation and let someone else know then you can work on the forgiveness part.

Forgiveness isn’t for the weak- you have to be strong enough to move on. People who can forgive see the bigger picture!

And really… unforgiveness is exhausting…you have to constantly remind yourself to be upset. It is miserable.

Today I want to encourage you to LET IT GO- Be selfish, forgive others so you can MOVE on with your life and pursue the future that God has planned for you.
