What To Do When Storms Come

What To Do When Storms Come

A storm by definition is a disburbance of the normal condition of the atmosphere manifesting itself by winds of unusual force and direction.

When our lives have been turned upside down by illness, financial difficulty, job loss, relational and marital problems, or some other force that upsets the normal condition of our lives, we are facing a storm.

Remember the Song “Stormy Weather” – “Don’t know why there’s no sun up in the sky Stormy weather Since my woman and I ain’t together, Keeps rainin’ all of the time..Life is bare, gloom and mis’ry everywhere Stormy weather And I just can’t get my poorself together, I’m weary all the time So weary all the time….All I do is pray the Lord above will let me walk in the sun once more. I can’t go on, can’t go on, can’t go on, ev’ry thing I had is gone Stormy weather

Luke 8:22-25 NIV – One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. 24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”

•Squall – a sudden violent gust of wind or a localized storm, especially one bringing rain, snow, or sleet.

Take note: Jesus said “let’s go over to the other side.” FYI – He knew about the Storm.

•Don’t ever assume God will lead you around a storm or you can avoid storms in this life

Before we know it, fierce winds destroy our happiness, dreams and ultimately our lives as we struggle to stay afloat.  In todays msg, we will explore how to move forward when the storms hold us back.

When the storms of life strike, it’s what happens in you that will determine what happens to you.

It’s amazing how quickly the storms of life strike, isn’t it?  Just like that, so many times out of no where.

Storms never dictate God’s Direction

•He’s never surprised of the storm

•He will lead you through the storm

•Jesus is not only in the quiet places but also the chaotic places

•If you go where God leads you you will go through a storm to get there.

Jesus asks them….”Where is Your Faith? Storms locate our faith

What to remember about storms

1. Storms are inevitable.

When it comes to storms, it’s not a matter of if, but when.

•You’re probably – Entering a storm – Engaging a storm – Emerging from a storm

The storm in Luke still happened even though Jesus was on board…Never says, life with me will be a three hour tour

John 16:33 NIV –  “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Storms right now

•Hurricanes Harvey and Irma

•National Debt is $19 Trillion Dollars

•War on Terror

•Killings of Black men and cops

•Financial anxiety

•Loss of Job

•family member with cancer, sickness, or disease

•Our faith is strong on Sunday but absent on Monday

Isaiah 26:3 NIV – You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

Peace – It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or storms. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

2. Storms are unpredictable.

You can’t plan them, time them, schedule them

Jeremiah 4:20 NIV –  “Disaster follows disaster; the whole land lies in ruins.  In an instant my tents are destroyed, my shelter in a moment.”

3. Storms are temporary.

They have an end to them – They don’t last

Hebrews 10:35-37 NIV –  “So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.  You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.  For in just a very little while, He who is coming will come and will not delay.”

CS Lewis said…, “God who foresaw your tribulation (storm) has especially armed you to go through it, not without pain, but without stain.”

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 NIV For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

4. Storms are opportunities.

There is an old parable that says: All sunshine and no rain makes a desert – can have value

God wants to build your faith in the storms of life

•Can find purpose in the middle of a storm

•Our faith can be strengthened in the middle of a storm

•Our faith is tested by the storms of life

1 Peter 1:6-7 NIV- “In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.  These have come so that your faith–of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire–may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”

“A smooth sea, never made a skillful mariner. neither does uninterrupted prosperity and success qualify for usefulness and happiness.”

Charles Spurgeon said…”No faith is as precious as that which lives and triumphs in adversity”

John Calvin said, “Whatever sort of tribulation or storm we suffer, we should always remember that its purpose is to make us spurn the present and reach out to the future.”

Where’s Your Faith?

Faith does not mean trusting God to stop the storm, but trusting Him to strengthen us as we walk through the storm.

Psalm 23:4 NIV  “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

  1. Refuse to be Negative and Fearful.

Psalm 27:1 NIV – The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?

•365 times in the Bible it says “Fear Not”

Focus on the positive

•Faith is a trust in God. A belief that He knows what he’s doing regardless of the external circumstance.

•Focus on whats right not whats wrong – when you focus on whats wrong it consumes you spiritually. Don’t be obsessed with crisis and bad news.

“Some people are so negative that when they walk into a room the lights go out.”

Take two people in the same situation – One is destroyed by it – the other grows in it – choice

Colossians 1:11 NIV –  “God will strengthen you with his own great power so that you will not give up when troubles come, but you will be patient.”

When your faith becomes bigger, the storms become smaller.

2. Remember that God is with me.

“For you are with me” – not only power – but presence From “He” to “You” – up close and personal with God

Nahum 1:3 NIV – The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished. His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet.

•Your storm is Satan’s desperation to stop.

•Your greatest breakthrough comes from your greatest storm

Isaiah 43:2 NLT – When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression,  you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.

3. Rely on God’s protection and guidance.

“Your rod and staff comfort me” – rod and staff – protect and guide

Psalm 34:19 LB –  “The good man does not escape all troubles — he has them too.  But the Lord helps him in each and every one.”

•Not all storms come because of where you’ve been or what you’ve done – But where you are going and what your going to do.

•Great resistance always proceeds great Opportunity – Satan fears where you are going and who is with you!

Psalm 91:1-16 NIV – Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. 9 If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, 10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. 14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

REMEMBER:

  1. When you come out of the storm you won’t be the same person that walked in. That’s what the storm is all about.

2. God never leads us into a storm He doesn’t give us the power to overcome.

I pray today for my friends in Texas, Florida, and the East Coast. I pray that those who have experienced harm will have grace in restoring, rebuilding, and recovering, and that those facing danger will have safety, protection, and peace from the Faithful One—the One who is always with us.

Miracles Pt.5 – Immediate Miracles

Miracles Pt.5 – Immediate Miracles

God is able and willing to work miracles in and through any person who has a heart to believe in His unlimited power and unlimited possibilities. Miracles are for YOU today!

Psalm 77:14 NIV – You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.

Declaration:

“God wants my life to be full of Miracles. My Life itself is a Miracle. Miracles are happening to me continuously . I wake daily and experience the miracle of living. My miracles are expanding and accelerating. Today I expect and happily receive miracles.”

There is NO such thing as a hopeless situation. Every single circumstance of your life can change.

Miracle – an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs. A supernatural manifestation of divine power in the external world. a spontaneous expression of God’s elemental power.

Acts 10:44 NIV – While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.

Something IMMEDIATELY happened when they HEARD the WORD OF GOD.

Romans 10:17 ESV So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

If what you hear preached doesn’t cause faith to come and build faith in your spirit, then it either isn’t the Word of God or else you’re not hearing it

1. God’s Word is Everything God is (Miraculous, Spirit, Breath, Life, Presence, Power)

John 1:1-5 NIV – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.

John 6:63 NIV – The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.

2 Timothy 3:14-16 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

Inspiration is compound of the words “Theos” (God) and “Pneuma” (Spirit) – God Breathed – Inspiration of God

God’s Word is not the product of elevated human consciousness or enlightened human intellect. This is God breathing HIS very own breath and presence into something.

2. God’s Word has the ability to create, destroy, and perfect

Hebrews 11:3 NIV – By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

•We use words to describe, God uses Words to Create (Genesis 1)

Colossians 1:16 NIV – For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

Mark 11:12-14, 22-24 NIV12 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it. 22 “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23 “Truly[d] I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

•Your Mountain needs to hear God’s Word and Your Voice

By getting God’s Word deep into your spirit and speaking it boldly out your mouth, you release spiritual power to change things in the natural circumstances.

3. God’s Word is Living (All 66 books, 1, 189 Chapters, 31, 273 Verses)

Hebrews 4:12 NLT – For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Isaiah 40:8 NIV – The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.

Matthew 24:35 NIV – Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

I Peter 1:23-25 NIV – For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.24 For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”[a] And this is the word that was preached to you.

Abideth – To dwell, To remain, to last

4. God will Perform His Word

•Perform – to carry out an action or pattern of behavior; To begin and carry through to completion;

•Believing God’s word means What God says will come to pass

• Instead of believing what you see – Choose to believe what Jesus said!

Jeremiah 1:12 ESV – Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.”

Isaiah 55:8-11 NIV – “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it

Ezekiel 12:28 NIV – Therefore say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: None of my words will be delayed any longer; whatever I say will be fulfilled, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”

Hebrews 10:35-38 ESV – Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. 37 For, “Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay;38 but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.”

5. God’s Word Can Produce Immediate Miracles

•Immediately – without delay

•Quit saying WHEN, and Start saying NOW

•Faith says I have it NOW – Hope says I’ll get it later. Bring your Faith into the NOW Realm.

Hebrews 11:1 KJV “NOW faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Amplified – NOW faith is the assurance (the confirmation, [a]the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].

“If you believe”….Numerous times in the Bible we are told that if we only believe THEN God will fulfill His promises. It starts with believing. There is incredible power in belief.

Ephesians 3:20 NKJV – NOW to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

In the Amplified version is says:…His power is able to do superabundantly, far over and above all that we dare ask or think {infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams}

WE can Expect Immediate Miracles

Psalm 31:5 NIV – Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.

Psalm 69:17 NIV – Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble.

Psalm 79:8 NIV – Do not hold against us the sins of past generations; may your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need.

Psalm 102:2 NIV – Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly.

What has taken time, can begin to happen IMMEDIATELY – We have a right to believe God for Immediate miracles

The Proof of Immediate Miracles

Proof – the establishment of the truth of anything; demonstration. establishes validity

Luke 5:24-25 NIV 24 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God.

Acts 14:8-10 NIV In Lystra there sat a man who was lame. He had been that way from birth and had never walked. He listened to Paul as he was speaking. Paul looked directly at him, saw that he had faith to be healed 10 and called out, “Stand up on your feet!” At that, the man jumped up and began to walk.

Acts 3:1-9 NIV – One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God,

Mark 5:21-29, 38-42 NIV  When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.

38-42- When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40 But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished

NOW IS YOUR TIME FOR YOUR MIRACLE

2 Corinthians 6:2 NIV – For he says,“In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.”[a]I tell you, NOW is the time of God’s favor, NOW is the day of salvation

Miracles Pt.2 – Creating an Atmosphere for Miracles

Miracles Pt. 2 – Creating an Environment for Miracles

Today some will “Get this” and others will “Forget this!” Be the person who Get’s It! (Tap yourself on your head and heart and say, “I’m getting This”)

Psalm 77:14 NIV – You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.

God is able and willing to work miracles through any person who has a heart to believe in His unlimited power and unlimited possibilities. Miracles are for YOU today!

John 14:12 NIV – Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

Declaration:“God wants my life to be full of Miracles. My Life itself is a Miracle. Miracles are happening to me continuously . I wake daily and experience the miracle of living. My miracles are expanding and accelerating. Today I expect and happily receive miracles.”

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” Albert Einstein

Miracle – an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs. A supernatural manifestation of divine power in the external world. an event not explicable by natural or scientific laws. a work of God, a spontaneous expression of God’s elemental power.

Our lives should be characterized by the following words: miraculous, wonderful, surprising event, a marvel, phenomenon, supernatural, amazing, extraordinary, astounding, awesome, fabulous incredible, spectacular, wonderworking, unreal, unimaginable, unbelievable.

“A miracle is when the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. A miracle is when one plus one equals a thousand.” Frederick Buechner

Creating the Environment for Miracles

Our expectations for miracles usually need some nurturing, reviving, and strong encouragement.

We can all find a multitude of reasons to become doubtful and discouraged when our answers don’t manifest promptly.

•physical problems, disease, pain and suffering, financial challenges, a crumbling marriage, relationship gone bad, etc…

•Whatever is in your face, turn NOW and face God with these seeming impossibilities. Turn your fear into faith and unbelief into believing. Create it in your heart and mind and then move it into your room, home, apartment, car, workplace, etc.. create the atmosphere!

“Faith does not operate in the realm of the possible. There is no glory for God in that which is humanly possible. Faith begins where man’s power ends.” George Muller

1. Believe and Expect Miracles are Possible

GK Chesterton said, The most incredible thing about miracles is that they happen.”

Mark 11:22-24 ESV – 22 And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. 23 Truly, I say to you, whoever SAYS to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received[a] it, and it will be yours.

Stop only believing in the possible! Believe in the impossible! You have to believe things as you would have them be, instead as they are.

For every Mountain there is a Miracle!

If you believe there is a God with the power to make mountains, then you must necessarily believe He also has the power to move mountains.

Expectation – is to have a strong desire and be filled with anticipation and confidence in obtaining what is hoped for and expected

Expectation Believes 1. What God says will come to pass and 2. What I say will come to pass

•Expectation sees the invisible, believes the incredible, and receives the impossible

•Expectation is not believing that God can but that God will!

•Expectation is believing in things when common sense tells you not to

•Expectation is the KEY that releases the resources of God into our situation

The Law of Belief states, “What  person believes in their heart with conviction becomes their reality.

Mark 9:23 ESV – 23 And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.”

The Law of Expectations says that, basically, we get what we expect out of life.

“I am realistic – I expect miracles.” Wayne W. Dyer

Don’t allow anyone else’s limiting beliefs become yours – The only limits you have are the limits you believe. Be limitless by believing in the impossible.

•Start believing impossible things are possible – You will get what you expect!

Instead of believing what I see – I choose to believe what Jesus said!

So Don’t limit God down to the size of our brain

Ephesians 3:20 NKJV – Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

In the Amplified version is says:…His power is able to do superabundantly, far over and above all that we dare ask or think {infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams}

Expectations matter! You don’t get what you deserve you get what you EXPECT.

“Miracles are like pimples, because once you start looking for them you find more than you ever dreamed you’d see.”  Lemony Snicket, The Lump of Coal

2. Don’t be Afraid to ASK God for Miracles

Matthew 7:7-8 ESV – 7 “Ask (Not whine or complain), and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

Ask – to want or desire something, to inquire, to request, to crave, to call for, to demand.”

Remember – Life will pay any price you ask for.

John 14:12-14 ESV – 12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me[a] anything in my name, I will do it.

John 15:7 ESV – If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

Anything: any thing whatever; something, no matter what: a thing of any kind. in any degree; to any extent; in any way; at all:

•If you want to see Extraordinary Results in prayer, then be specific when you ask God for what you want, need, or desire. Clarity is the key.

If you are not clear, Faith cannot bring you what you want, need, or desire. a mixed frequency with your asking may produce no results. Get SPECIFIC with God and ASK Him.

Reasons come first Answers come second – WHY do you want what you want?

James 4:2 ESV – 2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.

-In other words, we try everything else but Prayer. Go ahead, I dare you! ASK GOD!

I John 5:14-15 ESV – 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

•Amplified – 14 And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us.15 And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possessions] the requests made of Him.

Matthew 21:22, Whatsoever you ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive.

•“Whatever & Anything” is an Extraordinary promise. What is your Anything?

Job 22:28 NKJV – You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways.

-NIV – What you decide on will be done,

-NLT – You will succeed in whatever you choose to do

-MSG – You’ll decide what you want and it will happen;

•Expectation says You must know what you want is yours the moment you ask! not after you pray, not when you feel something, not when you see something. The moment you pray believe you receive!

If you can believe it in your heart, you’re going to hold it in your hand.

The Prayer of Agreement

Matthew 18:19-20 NIV – “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

The word that Jesus used for “agree” in the above verse literally means “to stipulate (demand) by contract, to arrange definitively by covenant.”

Therefore, when Jesus said “If two of you shall agree,” He was actually saying, “If two of you will stipulate (place a demand upon) our arranged contract or covenant… ”

Prayer of expectation: Lord I believe You are good and You desire to release into my life wonderful, unimaginable, miraculous, great, and mighty things. I believe in miracles. I expect miracles. I receive miracles. Today I pray with large expectations by the power of the Holy Spirit. Enlarge my vision. Change my circumstance. Heal my body. Meet my need. Increase my faith. Secure my future. In Jesus Name. Amen!

Unshakeable Peace

Unshakeable Peace – Guest Speaker, Pastor Kyle Mills – Elevate City Church, Fort Wayne, IN.

(Luke 6:46-49 MSG) “Why are you so polite with me, always saying ‘Yes, sir,’ and ‘That’s right, sir,’ but never doing a thing I tell you? These words I speak to you are not mere additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundation words, words to build a life on. “If you work the words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who dug deep and laid the foundation of his house on bedrock. When the river burst its banks and crashed against the house, nothing could shake it; it was built to last. But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a dumb carpenter who built a house but skipped the foundation. When the swollen river came crashing in, it collapsed like a house of cards. It was a total loss.”

When we understand who we are & whose we are we will not be shaken

(John 16:33 MSG) “In this world you will experience difficulties! But take heart! I have conquered the world! I’ve told you this so that in trusting me, you will be unshakable and deeply at peace.”

(Isaiah 53:5 NIV) “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

We don’t follow a frail Jesus he was a stud – strong

Jesus went through 4 types of torture before giving up his life

The Thorns

Then to the Praetorium – Military headquarters for Roman guards

The guards mocked & messed with Jesus for hours

Jesus already – skin off from his ribs, back and spine

Cut off a huge piece of a branch – fashioned it together

Big branch more like a helmet covered his head – crown of thorns

Thorns about 1 inch that were forced into his head

Beat the thorns into his head- gave him a stick like a scepter

Knelt before him in mockery – Spit on Him, pulled out His beard (Is 50:6)

Beat His head with a stick – migraine of all migraine headaches

Through the thorns he brought us peace

  • He was punished; We have peace.

Why?  He took the punishment that brought us peace

That punishment gave power to restore our mind

Many people misunderstand this peace

Jesus did not come to earth to bring peace

(Luke 12:51 NIV) “Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.”

He came so that we could have peace in the middle of a troubled world

(Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT)  “Trust the Lord with all your heart. Don’t depend on your own understanding. Honor the Lord in everything you do and he will give you success.”

Trouble

What does trouble look like how does it come into our lives?

  • Confusion.

There are times & seasons when you do not understand life

(Psalm 10:1, 17 NIV) “Why, O Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? …You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry.”

It feels like God hears you and ignores you – unnecessary pain in your life

Even Jesus felt that way…

(Matthew 27:46 NIV) “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Why am I going through all this pain?

There was a moment that Jesus felt far from his Father

(Hebrews 4:15 NLT) This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.

Jesus went through this pain to put your heart at peace

Not to give you all the answers

Even on the other side of trouble we don’t get all the answers

  • Depression.

On the rise in this nation like never before

All over TV – If you take this drug it might help you take it 75x

It might help you – Then the next hour tells you that you might poop on yourself, right eye goes blind, can’t eat pancakes

Things don’t go our way – we don’t understand

Minds run wild – Hearts sink – My life is a wreck

Maybe God won’t come through – This pain is for nothing

If you are feeling this way then you are in good company

Most of the bible is written & lived by a bunch of messed up people  Who figured it out in the end

(Psalm 42:3-5 NLT) “Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, ‘Where is this God of yours?’ My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration! Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my Savior and my God.”

“I remember how it used to be”

Our minds are tormented by wishing it was different

Worship is always a part of the solution

Remind yourself of what God has done & who He is

  • Worry and fear.

Begin to spend emotional energy on things out of our control

Bethany – Fear with spiders story from home in Ohio – I tease her with it

90% of our energy is directed at things we have no control over

10% of our energy is focused on things that we can control

Jesus said it adds no value to your life

(Matthew 6:27 NIV) “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”

No benefit of worrying

What we are doing when we worry is saying God is not enough

I have to carry this burden for him

We have to trust that God has everything worked out

He gave us a gift in this part of his torture – peace

(John 14:27 NLT) “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” Billy Witt

At Peace

How do you find this peace?

1. Accept God’s grace.

Have to understand what Jesus has done for you

Most NT letters open or close by wishing Grace & Peace

(1 Corinthians 1:3 NLT) “May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.”

You don’t have peace unless you have grace – interconnected

Grace keeps us where we feel like we have to work it out on our own

It’s hard to wrap our human minds around grace

Greek word for Grace is the word “charis”

Means a gift or blessings, favor brought to man by Jesus

Literally means, “God is treating you as his child as though you have never made any mistakes in your life”

God’s message to us is you cannot earn it

Nothing you can to do lose God’s love – or earn his love – Grace is a gift

Paul was wrestling with a situation like ours

Trying to make sense of things – Trying to do it on his own

(2 Corinthians 12:8-10 NLT) “Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Instead of getting stressed out – Flip the whole deal – Grace

How is it going to happen, I don’t know but God’s grace is sufficient

2. Surrender to the Holy Spirit.

The enemy attacks you in your mind

Thoughts that tell you how worthless you are, things won’t work out, steal peace

(Romans 8:6 NLT) “So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. (sin brings death/separation) But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”

Ask the Holy Spirit to help guide your thoughts

You need the Holy Spirit’s activity in your life

He’ll bring counsel, direction, peace

Read God’s Word ask the Holy spirit to guide your thoughts

3. Pray about everything that bothers you.

God is not freaked out by your problems – Talk to Him

God is not saying hey Jesus did you see this going on, “Oh myself” what is going on.

(Philippians 4:6-7 NLT) “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

The time I find myself at great stress is when I drift from God

Remind yourself you are not in control nor is the devil in control – God is

Peace comes to guard your hearts and minds

Salvation Call – Jesus, forgive me for all of my sins, I give my life to you, make me brand new. I believe you died for me so that I can live. Fill me with your spirit that I would know you, & serve you with my life. My life is not my own, I give it to you. Thank you for loving me, in Jesus name, Amen!

Uncommon Families

Uncommon Families

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but “Leave it to Beaver” has left, Mayberry is a distant memory, and the Waltons have said, “goodnight!”,  The Brady Bunch has left the building. The little house we live in no longer resembles the one on the prairie! We have moved from “Father Knows Best” to we aren’t sure daddy knows anything! and The Partridge Family ain’t singing no more. The day we live is different. The climate has changed. This modern age has impacted and shaped our families. And as we are seeing now the goal of this modern age is not really to shape but to redefine family. Unfortunately, we will never be able to go back to yesterday. Therefore, we must learn to deal with today and tomorrow. However, even though we are in the modern age I believe there are still some old truths that modern family’s need today.

What has gone wrong with America’s Family?

· Did you know that in the US, every 8 seconds of every school day a child drops out of school?

· Every 26 seconds a child runs away from home.

· Every 47 seconds a child is either abused or neglected.

· Every 7 minutes a child is arrested for a drug offense.

· Every 36 minutes a child is either hurt or killed by a gun.

(Jeremiah 6:16 ESV) Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’

“The family has always been the cornerstone of American society. Our families nurture, preserve, and pass on to each succeeding generation the values we share and cherish, values that are the foundation for our freedoms. In the family we learn our first lessons of God and man, love and discipline, rights and responsibilities, human dignity and human frailty.” Ronald Reagan

Condition of Today’s Family

• Distracted.

(Isaiah 53:6 NIV) “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way.”

STAT: Average father spends 7 minutes a day with his kids. That’s 49 minutes for the week

• Divided.

(Mark 3:25 ESV)  And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand“ (NLT) A family splintered by feuding will fall apart.”

• Disrespectful.

(Titus 3:3 ESV) For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another.

• Dysfunctional.

(James 3:14-16 NLT) “But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying. For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.”

Dysfunction is Dangerous – dys means dangerous, impaired in function. A dysfunctional family is one functioning dangerously

Family is not an important thing , it’s everything!

Nehemiah 4:14 NIV After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”

  1. Nehemiah faced the awesome task in the restoration of Jerusalem. But he was surrounded with: 1. Unbelief  2. Opposition
    1. He lacked resources and he was operating in hostile territory with a meager number of supporters.
    2. He had to have a plan that had enough power and energy to overcome obstacles.
    3. Nehemiah put the people on two Unshakable Foundations:
      1. The Sovereign power of God
      2. The nearly unlimited protective power that comes from men and women when they fight for their families
      3. Nehemiah’s Strategy was that he was to station the rebuilders in front of their own house (Nehemiah 3:4)

How to be an Uncommon Family

If you don’t have kids these are amazing principles for your life – If you do have kids these are principles that will help grow your child

  1. Love and Serve God

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 NIV – Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

Kids Who Become Active Christ-followers as Adults

If mom and dad went to church:     72% of kids will as adults.

If mom only went to church:            15% of kids will as adults.

If dad only went to church:              55% of kids will as adults.

If neither mom nor dad:                   06% of kids will as adults.

(Joshua 24:15 NIV) But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua made a choice for his home. His choice was for his household to serve one God only. A choice against idolatry and for faithfulness. Regardless of the choices of others Joshua’s wife and children knew which way he would lead them.

•The challenges of Joshua’s day are no less than those we live among today. We have to choose to live according to God’s design for us IN OUR HOMES and FAMILIES.

•Is Christ is the head of this house, The unseen guest at every meal, The silent listener to every conversation.

The Most Important thing in Life

Matthew 22:37-38 NIV  Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.

Do you love God with all of your heart or some of your heart?

2.  Make God’s Word the standard.

•With so many “experts” running around with all of their ideas and inventions, It can sometimes be confusing to know who to listen to. The Bible specifically outlines God’s original design for the family. As long as we live according to His will, we can avoid the world’s less than perfect lifestyle and live in His perfect peace.

(1 Corinthians 3:19 NIV)  For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness

•Arguments and division need to be squelched with a higher authority than opinions or out of control emotions. To be a functional family in the plan of God, we must live according to Biblical principles. What is right for this situation according to the scriptures? How can this problem be solved with a Biblical mindset?

(Psalm 119:24 NIV) Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors.

Obeying God’s Word brings blessings to the family – Obedience is our Success

Deuteronomy 5:29 NIV – Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!

Deuteronomy 12:28 NIV – Be careful to obey all these regulations I am giving you, so that it may always go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the Lord your God.

Remember: Our instruction to our kids is never better than God’s

Proverbs 1:7 NIV – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

3. Lead Your Family

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 NIV – These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.

“The thing that impresses me most about America is the way the parents obey their children.” Edward, Duke of Windsor

Girl from (COYFC) comment – “I looked at my parents and family of an example of what not to be and do”.

Proverbs 22:6 ESVTrain up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Train: to initiate, dedicate, or train.

  1. Train them to manage God’s money. (Prov. 3:9-10) 2) Train them to carefully select friends. (Prov. 13:20) 3) Train them to watch their words. (Prov. 4:24) 4) Train them to be responsible. (Prov. 6:6-8) 5) Train them to guard their minds. (Prov. 23:7) 6) Train them to be generous. (Prov. 11: 25) 7) Train them to fear God. (Prov. 1:7)

Are you leading your children or are your children leading you?

4. Pray for and with your Family

Prayer is the way we write the future. It’s the difference between letting things happen and making things happen!

Philippians 4:6-7 NIV –  “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”

We have 2 options – We can Panic or Pray -You decide – Martin Luther said, “Pray and let God worry”

“Oh what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bare; All because we do not carry, everything to God in prayer” Joseph Scriven

Remember this  – You’ll never be a perfect parent, but you can be a praying parent.

Ill.—little boys staying overnight in backyard in a tent. Dad listened to them talk… “my daddy knows the mayor!”/ “governor!”/then he heard the voice of his own little boy say, “that’s nothin’, my daddy knows God!” (top that!) They said, he does not! “does too!” How do you know? “I heard him talkin’ to him just this morning!”

When you face unexpected problems and pressures, when you have a crisis, who do you turn to? God says,”Turn to Me first when you’ve got a problem.” Many people, when they’re in a tight situation, prayer is the last resort, not the first option. They do everything they can physically to try to correct the problem then they say, “I guess now all we can do is pray.” Like it must really be hopeless! Prayer should not be your last resort, it should be your first option.

Make God your first resort in difficulty. He says He is an ever present help a refuge in time of need. God is waiting. He commands us to turn to Him first.

Psalm. 50:15 “Call upon Me in your day of trouble and I will deliver you and you will honor Me.”

Some people get embarrassed and think, I don’t talk to God much when times are good and I don’t want to bother him with my problems. God says, “Bother Me. It’s no bother. I can handle your and every other person’s problems at the same time. Bring it to me. Don’t carry it all yourself.”

“I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had absolutely no other place to go.” Abraham Lincoln

“We have to pray with our eyes on God, not on the difficulties.” Oswald Chambers

When we pray we give God legal invitation to bring His will to pass. His will is always accomplished through obedience in prayer.

Luke 18:1 NIV – Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up

I Thessalonians 5:7 NLT – Never stop praying

Prayer is always the will of God – Don’t Give Up, Get Frustrated, disappointed, or lose hope – Praying is what we do in our time, and the answer happens in God’s time

One prayer can change ANYTHING. one prayer can change EVERYTHING

A Prayer for Family

Heavenly Father, Please shine your light upon my family. Give us strength to overcome all of the difficulties that we are dealing with now and protect us against any and all problems we may encounter in the future. O Lord, please bring us together as we are meant to be. May the love that binds us only grow stronger as we fulfill the destiny you have laid out for us.

Grant my family forgiveness for any sins we have committed. May we also forgive one another Lord, as it is sometimes difficult to do. Father, let no sickness, disease, harm, division, distruction, or injury come upon us, protect us, have your angels encamped around us and protect us. Stop the assignment of the enemy. We will prosper, be in health, and our souls with prosper. Bless us Lord, In your name I pray, Amen

ENDING

If we’ve failed or messed up in these areas (and most likely we all have) – we can make a fresh start today!

Acts 3:19-20 NIV – Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, 20 and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus.

Lamentations 5:21 MSG Bring us back to you, GOD—we’re ready to come back. Give us a fresh start.

Uncommon Conflict

16299248_1340315662699305_1636272903134716035_n

Uncommon Conflict

Give you some ground rules for this Message

1. Listen for yourself – No elbows – Listen for yourself – This is for YOU

2. Your going to hear God’s standard and feel like this is too tough

Look how far I am from God’s standard – Don’t be discouraged

Let me be clear, Jesus came to make ALL things new

You get a DO OVER everybody – Don’t get discouraged

Average marriage in America lasting only 3 years

I believe God will help heal marriages that are broken, strengthen marriages that are struggling, and launch marriages that are just beginning

How we handle conflict has the potential to destroy our marriage or set it up for success

Opening:

  1. Lyndon B Johnson said, “I have learned that only two things are necessary to keep one’s wife happy. First, let her think she is having her way, And second, Let her have it.”
  2. A man who gives in when he’s wrong is wise. A man who gives in when he’s right is married.
  3. Red Skeleton said, I married miss right, I just didn’t know her first name was Always.
  4. After winning an argument with his wife, the wisest thing a man can do is apologize
  5. Adam and Eve had an ideal marriage. he didn’t have to hear about all the men she could have married, and she didn’t have to hear about how well his mother cooked.

Romans 12:2 NLT Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

A good marriage is built by two people’s capacity to adjust to bad things – Everyone Has Conflict. While we are on our way to heaven many times our marriage feels like hell.

Everyone knows marriage is no picnic. Even if it is, it sometimes rains. Sometimes good marriages bump into bad things

Having conflict in your marriage does not mean that you don’t love each other, but how you deal with the conflict shows whether or not you love each other. (I want to say this again, so important you get this)

If you’re sitting here today and you’re concerned about your marriage…

And you’ve been fighting, take a deep breath and know that conflict is completely normal

Four Causes of Conflict

1. Poor communication.

Remember, Every time you open your mouth, your mind walks out and parades up and down the words.

Psalm 141:3 NIV Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.

Attack the problem (conflict) not each other – Because all of us are wired to “win”  So in the middle of dealing with conflict we always try to find the knockout punch

Proverbs 6:2 NIV – you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that

it has taken place. ~George Bernard Shaw

Matthew 12:36-37 MSG “Let me tell you something: Every one of these careless words is going to come back to haunt you. There will be a time of Reckoning. Words are powerful; take them seriously. Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation.”

Conflicts arise when there is disconnection between what we say to each other and how we say it.

Example: Woman is looking into the mirror and says to her husband, “Honey I feel bad about myself. I look fat and ugly. I really need you to give me a compliment. The husband replied, “You have perfect eyesight!”

James 3:5-6 NIV “Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire…it sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.”

2. Unfulfilled expectations/needs.

The ups and downs of life can actually strengthen your marriage if you adjust your expectations accordingly.

James 4:1-2 NIV What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.

Example: Each others expectations of each other

3. Despising differences.

Mark 3:25 NIV If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

Ephesians 2:14 NIV For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility.

Differences concerning…Sex….Money…Music….Movies, etc….

4. Sin nature.

Romans 3:23 NLT For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

(Ecclesiastes 7:20 NLT) There is not a single person in all the earth who is always good and never sins.

Romans 8:5-6 NIV Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

Four Ways to Deal with Conflict

1. My way.

2. Your way.

3. Half way.

4. God’s way – He is the answer to conflict

Resolve the Conflict

Ecclesiastes 3:1-5 NIV There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: 2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

Ephesians 2:12-14 NIV12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,

Conflict cannot continue without my participation.

  1. Ask God For Help

James 4:2 NIV – 2 You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.

Matthew 7:7-8 ESV “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

If you are not clear, Faith cannot bring you what you want, need, or desire. a mixed frequency with your asking may produce no results. Get SPECIFIC with God and ASK Him.

I John 5:14-15 NIV  This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

2. Act Do Not React.

“A person who overreacts in a situation with another person values the situation more than the relationship.”

Ephesians 4:26-27 NIV “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.

Refrain from having reruns of old arguments

How many times have you gotten into a small fight or conflict

But it blew up into something huge because past mistakes got brought up?

Romans 12:19-21 NIV Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

3. Speak Words of Life

Communication in our relationships is not a luxury its a necessity.

If you want to change your marriage, change the words you speak.

Proverbs 15:4 NIV – The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.

(Honeymooners example)

Ephesians 4:29 NIV – Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Proverbs 12:18 NIV – The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

4. Be Quick To Forgive

Forgiveness is a choice not a feeling. It is an act of our will. It cannot be earned, it can only be given.

When you forgive you open up an invitation for the Holy Spirit to give you His peace and Joy in your relationship

Colossians 3:13 NIV Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

“Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and hoping the other person dies.”  ~Anne Lamont

Unforgiveness is the breeding ground for destruction in a marriage

Ephesians 4:32 NIV – Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Make love and Forgiveness your default mode. It should always be an automatic setting in your heart when you are mistreated.

A life time is a long time to live with bitterness and resentment towards your spouse or someone

If I have to say to you that I forgive you, it’s harder for me to hold on to it
A maturity in Marriage is  – 1. Giving and 2. Forgiving

1 Corinthians 13:5 MSG  (Love) doesn’t force itself on others, isn’t always “me first,” doesn’t fly off the handle, doesn’t keep score of the sins of others.

Don’t Stop Loving

In the Movie Stepmom – There is a husband and his wife who get a divorce. He is out with his children for his weekend. He is trying to explain the divorce to his kids because they keep asking why he doesn’t live with them, etc…They ask him “Don’t you love mommy anymore? He said, No I guess I don’t love your Mommy anymore. They said, “Didn’t you used to love her? He said, Yes, but I guess I fell out of love.” Then the little boy looks up at his dad and says, “Dad, can a parent fall out of love with their children?”

1 John 4:8-11 MSG The person who refuses to love doesn’t know the first thing about God, because God is love—so you can’t know him if you don’t love. This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God. My dear, dear friends, if God loved us like this, we certainly ought to love each other.

Never stop holding hands, Never stop Dancing, Never stop saying I love you!

Matthew 22:34-40 NIV Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

God Can Heal YOU and your Relationship

Lamentations 5:21 MSG Bring us back to you, GOD—we’re ready to come back. Give us a fresh start.

My Evening Prayer Liturgy

The Call To Prayer

May the Lord Almighty grant and those I love a peaceful night and a perfect end.

†OPENING From the rising of the sun to its setting, Let the name of the Lord be praised. YOU, O LORD, ARE MY LAMP. MY GOD, YOU MAKE MY DARKNESS BRIGHT. Light and peace in Jesus Christ our Lord. THANKS BE TO GOD.

Psalm 63:7-8 When I think of you upon my bed, through the night watches I will recall that you indeed are my help, and in the shadow of your wings I shout for joy.

O God make speed to save me, O Lord make haste to help me. I need you.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me.

Confession of Sin

Almighty God, My heavenly Father, I have sinned against you, through my own fault in thought, and in word, and deed, in what I have done and what I have left undone. For the sake of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ, forgive me all my offenses; and grant that I may serve you in newness of life, to the glory of your name.  In Jesus Name. Amen.

Psalm 51 NIV Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge. 5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. 6 Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place. 7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. 10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you. 14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, you who are God my Savior, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. 15 Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise. 16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. 17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise. 18 May it please you to prosper Zion, to build up the walls of Jerusalem. 19 Then you will delight in the sacrifices of the righteous, in burnt offerings offered whole; then bulls will be offered on your altar.

I adore You, my God, and I love You with all my heart. I thank you for having created me, for having made me a Christian, and for having preserved me this day. Pardon me for the evil I have done today. If I have done anything good, be pleased to accept it. Protect me while I take my rest and deliver me from all dangers. May your grace be always with me. Amen.

Luke 6:12 ESV In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.

Oh Lord, I pray you to visit our home and drive from it all snares of the enemy. Let Your holy angels dwell in it to preserve us in peace; and let Your blessing be always upon us. Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep, that awake, we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in his peace. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Psalm 4:8 I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O Lord make me dwell in safety.

PSALM 131 O Lord, my heart is not lifted up, my eyes are not raised too high; I DO NOT OCCUPY MYSELF WITH THINGS TOO GREAT AND TOO MARVELOUS FOR ME. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother;  MY SOUL IS LIKE THE WEANED CHILD THAT IS WITH ME. O Israel, hope in the Lord FROM THIS TIME ON AND FOREVERMORE.

Expressions of faith

Lord, You have always given bread for the coming day;

and though I am poor, today I believe.

Lord, You have always given strength for the coming day;

and though I am weak, today I believe.

Lord, You have always given peace for the coming day;

and though of anxious heart, today I believe.

Lord, You have always kept me safe in trials;

and now, tried as I am, today I believe.

Lord, You have always marked the road for the coming day;

and though it may be hidden, today I believe.

Lord, You have always lightened this darkness of mine;

and though the night is here, today I believe.

Lord, You have always spoken when time was ripe;

and though you be silent now, today I believe.

Psalm 141:2 Let my prayer be incense before you; my uplifted hands an evening sacrifice. My uplifted hands: the gesture of supplication.

Be present, O merciful God and protect me and my family through the silent hours of this night, so that we who are fatigued by the changes and chances of this fleeting world, may repose upon your eternal changelessness. Let no sickness, disease, harm, or injury come to any of us.

Amos 5:8 NIVHe who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns midnight into dawn and darkens day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land – the Lord is his name.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Concluding Prayer

O Lord, all treasures of wisdom and truth and holiness are stored up in your boundless being. Grant that through our constant fellowship with you, those graces of Christian character may more and more take shape within me:

The grace of a thankful and uncomplaining heart;

The grace to await your timing patiently and to answer your call promptly;

The grace of courage whether in suffering or in danger;

The grace to endure any hardship in the fight against evil;

The grace of boldness to stand up for what is right;

The grace of being adequately prepared for any temptation;

The grace of physical discipline;

The grace of truthfulness;

The grace to treat others as I would like them to treat me;

The grace of sensitivity, that I may refrain from hasty judgement;

The grace of silence, that I may refrain from thoughtless speech;

The grace of forgiveness toward all who have wronged me;

The grace of tenderness toward all who are weaker than myself;

The grace of faithfulness in continuing to desire that you will answer these prayers.

And now, O God, give me a quiet mind as I lie down to rest. Dwell in my thoughts until sleep overtakes me. Do not let me be worried by the small anxieties of this life. Do not let any troubled dreams disturb me, so that I may wake refreshed an ready for all that tomorrow brings. In Jesus Name, Amen!

My Morning Prayer Liturgy

O Lord, let my soul rise up to meet you as the day rises to meet the sun.

Psalm 5:3 NIV – “In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.”

Psalm 119:47 – Early in the morning I cry out to you, for in your word is my trust.

Mark 1:35 NIV  Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

Father God, creator of heaven and earth, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, God of Israel, God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ, True and living God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Who is One God and all your fullness is in Christ, Have mercy and hear my prayer

O Lord, open my Lips and my mouth shall proclaim your praise

All Glory be given to Jesus, as it was in the beginning is now, and will be forever. Amen

O God make speed to save me, O Lord make haste to help me. I need you.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me.

Confession of Sin

Most merciful God, I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed

By what I have done, and by what I have left undone.

I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbor as myself. I have not thought right thoughts, I have not said right things.

I am truly sorry and I humbly repent.

For the sake of your son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me;

That I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Confession of Faith in the Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of the saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have mercy on me

Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Psalm 91:1-2 ESV

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Prayers for My Family

Psalm 103:1-6

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, 3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 5 who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. 6 The LORD works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed.

The Lord’s Prayer

The Beatitudes

Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to Him, 2 and He began to teach them, saying: 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Prayer for Peace

O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near; Grant that people everywhere may see after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Daring Faith Pt.6 What Happens When You Have Faith

Daring Faith Pt.6 – What Happens When You Have Faith

Romans 1:17 NIV “The Gospel shows us how God makes people right with himself – that it begins and ends with FAITH. The Scripture says those who are right with God will live by trusting in Him.”

Hebrews 11:6 NIVWithout faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes  to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

BIG Q:  WHAT IS FAITH?

NOT DESIRE – you can wish, and hope, and pray, and sincerely want something with all of your heart, but…..Desire may lead you to faith, but it is not faith.

NOT PRETENDING  TO BELIEVE A LIEFaith is always based upon the truth.  It is based on facts. How do you know the truth?  GOD’S WORD . Not  conning yourself into believing something that isn’t true.

NOT A FEELING – in fact, feelings OFTEN get in the way of faith.  Faith moves ahead even when my feelings  say “don’t!”

NOT BARGAINING WITH GOD “Lord, if you’ll do this, I’ll do that”  God never bends to pressure tactics.

Hebrews 11:1 NLT – “What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for IS going to happen and to be certain of things we do not yet see.”

•Agree? More than 1 way to look at things!

Ephesians 1:18 NLT I pray that the eyes of your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can see the wonderful future God has promised to those he called.”

Song – “Open the eyes of My Heart” “Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus” Meaning?   There is an unseen dimension

•Bible – many examples where God opened people’s eyes

•In life-always looking  at you future… in faith or fear – family… problems…career…health

2nd Question: What happens when we see with eyes of fear/faith?

Example: Numbers 13+14 – Moses had led the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt

– 2 years wandering – wilderness.

– Came to Kadesh -edge of Promise Land

– 12 spies selected to go see… A VISION TRIP for fact finding & due diligence

– Returned with 2 reports:  10-neg. /  2-pos.  The people Accepted the majority report

Because they failed to see with eyes of faith:

– lost opportunity to possess the Prom. Land!

– spent next 38 yrs wandering!  Entire generation died in the desert!

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE SEE WITH EYES OF FEAR?

1. We EXAGGERATE OUR DIFFICULTIES.

Amazing-God had just delivered them from Egypt-most powerful…Now worried about some local tribe!   How quickly we forget!

Fact: When you look at your problems w/eyes of fear — BIGGER!

Numbers. 13:27-32 NLT – 27 This was their report to Moses: “We entered the land you sent us to explore, and it is indeed a bountiful country—a land flowing with milk and honey. Here is the kind of fruit it produces. 28 But the people living there are powerful, and their towns are large and fortified. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak! 29 The Amalekites live in the Negev, and the Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites live in the hill country. The Canaanites live along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea[a] and along the Jordan Valley.”30 But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!”31 But the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. “We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!” 32 So they spread this bad report about the land among the Israelites: “The land we traveled through and explored will devour anyone who goes to live there. All the people we saw were huge.

-DEVOUR – eat up  “Eat our lunch!”  Cannibals!

-Giants –Nepheelim – bullies, tyrants.. NFL linebackers

Only 2 of the spies had faith. Joshua & Caleb: God is with us!

-People who trust God are always in the minority.

– Always more worriers… naysayers… fretful…fearful.. negative

Problem: negative attitudes are contagious!

How Ironic: 38 yrs later-finally…Enemy said: “ We’ve lived panic of  you for 40 yrs!  Heard about Egypt-10 plagues.  Ready to surrender!

2. We underestimate OUR ABILILTIES.

Numbers 13:33 NLT –We even saw giants[a] there, the descendants of Anak. Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought, too!”

Talk about low self-esteem! We’re insects! “They will eat us for lunch!” “cant do it!” (Quit talking about what you can’t do)

That’s what they thought too” –we project our fears on others

Problem: been slaves-400 yrs.  Tho free – still mentally enslaved conditioned: Still saw selves as helpless!   Enslaved by an idea!

– Yrs ago-people said hurtful things about you Maybe labeled:  “You’re stupid… a failure …ugly …uncoordinated

Those people aren’t around anymore-yet you’re still believing it!

ILL: Spies saw some tall people: “giants!” Later: the tall people weren’t even warriors! PERSPECTIVE is what defeats us! (I Jn 4:4)

3. We EVENTUALLY GRIPE, GIVE UP & BLAME GOD!

Numbers 14:1-3 NLT – Then the whole community began weeping aloud, and they cried all night. Their voices rose in a great chorus of protest against Moses and Aaron. “If only we had died in Egypt, or even here in the wilderness!” they complained. “Why is the Lord taking us to this country only to have us die in battle? Our wives and our little ones will be carried off as plunder! Wouldn’t it be better for us to return to Egypt?”

Held a giant pity party!  Poor us!

•Some people all they talk about is where they’ve been

•Second guessing… Good ol days in Egypt. Had so much fun there! Slavery but safety! You can deny responsibility if a slave!

•Some of you are confusing slavery with safety!

“I know it’s a bad situation but at least it’s predictable”

“I know  this habit is self-defeating- but comfortable”

There is no real freedom without taking risks!  Takes faith! If you feel you’ve been wandering in circles- Don’t die in the desert!  Move ahead in faith!

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE SEE WITH EYES OF FAITH?

1. FAITH SHRINKS MY PROBLEMS

Faith gives you a new perspective – When you see problems from God’s point of view, they seem more manageable

ILL: When you give your problem to the Lord and then trust Him to work it out, you stop worrying.

•How will it be solved?  THAT’S GOD’S PROBLEM!

Genesis 18:14 NLT “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

•Ignoring the Giants (Problems) is not what made their reports good or evil.

•You are not admitting doubt when you recognize a problem – Faith is never ignoring the obvious.

•Faith says We are well able to overcome the Giants! Faith says you ought to see the size of these Grapes!

Luke 1:37 ESV “For nothing will be impossible with God!”

With Faith, the 2 Spies were Giant Killers and Grape Tasters and the 10 other spies were Grasshoppers. Which will you be?

•Grasshoppers major on problems and obstacles. Giant Killers & Grapetasters focus on the possibilities and opportunities.

2. FAITH OPENS THE DOOR FOR A MIRACLE

It can move mountains. Throughout history, everytime God did a miracle…

Mark 11:22-24 NIV – Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23 “Truly[a] I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

God has set up the universe so that the law of faith Is the only law that supersedes the laws if nature.  That’s miracle!

Faith is a spiritual force based on the eternal laws of God that can change things in the natural.

*Does God still perform miracles today? Of course he does!  (Financial, family, personal, etc.)

*What is your mountain that needs to be moved today?God is in the mountain-moving business,

BUT   – MUST NOT DOUBT!

Matthew 13:58 NIV “And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.

3. FAITH MOVES GOD TO ACT ON MY BEHALF

Now don’t get me wrong, God is neither a servant nor a slot machine.  He is not there to cater to your every whim

Matthew 9:29 NLT –  Then he touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith, it will happen.”

God does not bow to pressure or bargaining but he loves to answer requests made in genuine faith.

I John 5:14-15 ESV 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

•Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible, and receives the impossible

•Faith is not believing that God can but that God will!

2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV – For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.

•Faith is the KEY that releases the resources of God into our situation

God Makes Outrageous Promises About What He Does WHEN WE HAVE DARING FAITH

John 14:12-14 ESV 12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me[a] anything in my name, I will do it.

John 15:7 ESV – If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

John 3:16-18 MSG – “This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.

“Just because you don’t get everything you want when you want it, Should NEVER stop you from having Daring Faith and Trust in God”

Daring Faith Pt.4 Waiting on God

Desktop

Daring Faith Pt.4 – Waiting on God

Isaiah 40:28-31 ESV – Have you not known? Have you not heard?

The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth; He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29  He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

  • Few things make us more irritable than having to wait. in traffic …a  waiting room .. a line at Disneyland…restaurants… =long lines

Waiting is perhaps the hardest discipline of the Christian life. Most of us hate to wait. I know I do. Probably all of us are waiting for something at this very moment.

Waiting for your grades.

Waiting to graduate.

Waiting to be accepted to college.

Waiting for your first job offer.

Waiting to see if the bank will give you a loan.

Waiting for the right time to start a family.

Waiting for your loved ones to come to Christ.

Waiting to meet the right guy or the right girl.

Waiting to be married.

Waiting to find out what God wants you to do.

Waiting for someone to buy your house.

Waiting for your prayers to be answered.

Waiting for your husband to come home from a business trip.

Waiting for your prayers to be answered

We all have to wait whether we like it or not. Truth be told, most of life is waiting.

For instance, when you watch a football game on TV, most of the time nothing happens. By rule the actual game takes 60 minutes to play, but the average NFL telecast lasts three hours. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, in the average NFL telecast the actual playing of football takes up eleven minutes. If that’s true, then what happens the rest of the time?  In that three-hour block of time, you have . . .

60 minutes for commercials.

75 minutes when the players are standing around.

17 minutes for replays.

After a few other miscellaneous things are thrown in (such as crowd shots and talking heads in the booth and shots of the cheerleaders), what you are left with is . . .11 minutes of actual football.

– Technology has made us more impatient- expect it FAST!

And yet waiting is an important part of life & character development. We learn things while WAITING- – learn no other way.

Every child must learn difference between; “No”  & “Not Yet”

Our inability to wait is the source of so many problems = Debt…  broken hearts

– Ever been in a hurry when God wasn’t?   Frustrating. You can rush your kids, but you cant rush God!

Some of you are  waiting for God ….to open a door….answer a prayer  ….give direction…  meet a need…give direction…   heal a relationship… remove a pain

Obvious that God has his own timetable.

“The idea of waiting for something makes it more exciting – Andy Warhol

Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT  Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.

WHAT TO REMEMBER WHILE WAITING ON GO

1. REMEMBER THERE’S A NATURAL DELAY BETWEEN PLANTING and HARVESTING!  “season”

Ecclesiastes 3:1-5 NIV – “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: 2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

ILL: Many have planted seeds of faith – you wont harvest immediately (Gen 8:22)WRITE “ I reap in a different season than I sow”

Waiting quietly, patiently & expectantly is faith!

2.  REMEMBER THERE’S AN UNSEEN BATTLE GOING ON.

A Spirit war between good & evil.   God & Satan    angels & demons and We’re caught in the middle

Ephesians 6:12 NIV – For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

• Satan throws darts of doubt & discouragement WHILE you wait

We don’t know much about this “unseen battle” but amazing glimpse in Daniel that show why some of our prayers are delayed:

DANIEL 10:11-13 NLT “ And the man said to me, “Daniel, you are very precious to God, so listen carefully to what I have to say to you. Stand up, for I have been sent to you.” When he said this to me, I stood up, still trembling.12 Then he said, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer. 13 But for twenty-one days the spirit prince[a] of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels,[b] came to help me, and I left him there with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia

Write: A delay is not a denial!

3.  REMEMBER GOD IS PREPARING ME FOR HIS BLESSING

God usually has a bigger, better idea in mind. He needs to get you ready for this bigger blessing;  First, he wants to strengthen your faith:

1 Peter 1:6-7 (NLT) “There is wonderful joy ahead, even though it is necessary for you to endure many trials for a while. These troubles test your faith, to show that it is strong and pure, just as fire tests and purifies gold—and your faith is far more precious to God than mere gold.”

•Some of you are going thru the fire right now, Keep going!

Write:  Waiting is always a test!

Paul compares waiting on God to pregnancy:

Rom.8:24-28   (Mes) “Waiting does not diminish us, any more than waiting diminishes a pregnant mother. We are enlarged in the waiting. We don’t see what is enlarging us, but the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy. Meanwhile, when we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He prays in us and for us… He knows us far better than we know ourselves, and knows our pregnant condition… That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.”

Waiting never rejection Every timeI thought I was being rejected from something good, God was actually re directing me to something better.

4.  REMEMBER I’M IN GOOD COMPANY WHEN WAITING ON GOD

Millions of saints before you have sat in God’s Waiting Room

Hebrews 11:2 NLT – Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.

“People who lived in the past became famous because of their faith.” ((ICB)

Hannah waited years to have a baby

Joseph – 14 yrs-in prison- a crime he didnt commit

Moses – 40 yrs in desert for his life purpose

Abraham – 100 yrs for a son thru Sarah

Noah – 120 yrs before rain

Jacob  – 20 Years

David – 12 years

Jesus waited 30 years

God waited 1000s of yrs to send Jesus!

Hebrews 6:15 NLT “Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.”  Leads to 5th remember

5.  REMEMBER GOD ALWAYS KEEPS HIS PROMISES!

Unlike others, you can count on God to come through.

So don’t focus on what U CAN’T do, Focus on what God CAN do!

Promises help you do that “Anything is possible if you have faith!”

Habakkuk 2:3 NLT – This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.

•“At the time I have decided, my words WILL come true. You can trust what I say about the future. It may take a long time, but keep on waiting— it will happen!”

– About 7000 promises

– God’s waiting room is a great time to memorize scripture

•We have to trust God even when His answer is “Wait”

SONG: ’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take Him at His Word; Just to rest upon His promise, And to know, “Thus saith the Lord!” Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er; Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!Oh, for grace to trust Him more!

4 THINGS TO DO WHILE WAITING ON GOD: W.A.I.T.

1. WRITE DOWN THE LESSONS I’M LEARNING

Waiting is always the season to LISTEN & LEARN from God!

– God has some things he want to teach you first!

More interested in your character…

– But you’ll forget the lessons unless you write them down!

ILL: Like Moses- some of you are wandering in the wilderness!

Not an accident!    Waiting in wilderness for a purpose!

Write: The way to the Promised Land is thru the wilderness!

Numbers 33:2 (NLT) “At the Lord’s direction, Moses kept a written record of their progress.”

Keep a journal in while waiting! Write down every little thing God says to you!

Little lessons lead to Big successes”

Deuteronomy 11:2 NLT – Keep in mind that I am not talking now to your children, who have never experienced the discipline of the Lord your God or seen his greatness and his strong hand and powerful arm.

•“Remember what you have learned about the Lord through your experiences with him.”

If you don’’t remember God has to take you there again!  Painful!

A good prayer to pray…Psalm 119:33 MSG “God, teach me lessons for living so I can stay the course.”

2. ACT AS THOUGH I ALREADY HAVE IT

We typically waste time 3 ways  when waiting :

We wonder- Why, Lord why?

      worry– How, Lord, how?

whine = When, Lord, when?  Complaining never moves God

Instead ACT in FAITH

Mark 11:24 ESV Jesus said “I Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received[a] it, and it will be yours.”

ILL: Every pregnant woman does this

– She carries inside her the promise of a baby.

Even tho she can’t see it, she knows that baby is there!

– So she starts preparing its arrival… eats…nursery, clothes

ALL IN ADVANCE!

They don’t call it “Expecting” for nothing! She KNOWS that the baby is coming- it’s just a matter of time! & She’ll wait as long as it takes!

Write: Waiting is not passivity!  Do all you can to get ready!

Difference: waiting passively & waiting expectantly in faith

Get prepared & Act as Though

Romans 4:17 NIV “As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.”[a] He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not”

ILL – Changed Abram’s name long before it happened! “I have made you a father of many nations.”

3. IMITATE THE HABITS THAT GROW STRONG FAITH

Use the time while you are waiting to develop personal maturity!

1 Peter 1:6-7 (NIV) We do not want you to become lazy, but to IMITATE those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.”

Philippians 4:9 (NLT) Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

WRITE: DON’T put my life on hold!

Waiting is NOT inactivity.. idleness… laziness ..passivity.. apathy

WAITING IS THE TIME TO DEVELOP HABITS & SKILLS!

4 FAITH-BUILDING HABITS

o KEEP ON PRAYING

Mt. 7:7 (NLT)“Keep on asking, and you WILL be given what you ask for. Keep on looking, and you WILL find. Keep on knocking, and the door WILL be opened!”

o KEEP ON SERVING

Rom. 12:11   (NLT) “Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically.”    This sharpens your skills

“Wait” = also means “SERVE!”  waiter/ lady in waiting

Don’t wait for s significant ministry. Make it one!

o KEEP ON SOWING

Ecclesiastes 11:6 NLT –  Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon, for you don’t know if profit will come from one activity or another—or maybe both.

•“Keep on sowing your seed, for you never know which ones will grow–perhaps they all will!”  (LB)

o KEEP ON BELIEVING

2 Timothy 3:14 NIV – But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it,

•“You must keep on believing the things you have been taught. You know they are true.” (LB)

POINT; Stay active!  God can’t direct a parked car!

4. TRUST GOD instead of PANICKING

Two facts you can trust:

1. God is never in a hurry.  2. God is never late. •His timing is perfect.

Anytime He seems late – He’s preparing you for a miracle!

ILL: Mary and Martha in the Bible had a brother named Lazarus. Lazarus was one of Jesus’ best friends. Lazarus got deathly sick and he lived in a city called Bethany. Bethany was just a few miles from where Jesus was. Maybe three or four miles. It’s just out of town, out of Jerusalem. They sent word to Jesus, Jesus can you come over to our house in Bethany. Your best friend Lazarus is sick. He’s deathly ill.

And it takes Jesus three days to go about five miles. What’s going on here? When Jesus finally gets there he could have easily got there in an hour or two. It takes him three days to go a few miles to see his best friend who’s dying. And when he gets there they say, Too late Jesus. He’s already dead. We’ve wrapped him up and we’ve buried him in a tomb. You’re too late. Sorry.

Jesus wasn’t late. Because Jesus already had in his mind what he was going to do. His goal was not to heal Lazarus. His goal was to raise him from the dead. His goal was not to just make him well. His goal was to do a miracle of astronomical proportions.

Sometimes God lets a situation get so bad only a miracle will do. Don’t give up your faith. Hold on. Hang on. Do the things I’ve just taught you how to do. Because you’re getting ready for a miracle.

Jesus walks up to the tomb and says roll the stone away. They roll the stone away and he says Lazarus come forth. Now, I’m glad he said Lazarus because if he just said, Come forth, every dead person in the cemetery is going to come out at that point. But he calls him by name: Lazarus come forth. He comes out.

Psalm 56:3 NIV When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”

LISTEN: Some of you are waiting for the fear to go away. IT won’t!You must move against it in FAITH!

STORY: BAMBOO!- Don’t get discouraged at year 6!

•Some bamboos grow very, very slow. And some grow very fast. And some grow slow, slow, slow and then fast. Here’s how you grow a typical piece of bamboo. You cut a piece of bamboo off and you cut it in half and you stick it in the ground. And you water it for a year and nothing happens. Nothing. And you water it for the second year, the bamboo, and nothing happens. And you water it for the third year and nothing happens. And you water it for the fourth and then the fifth year and nothing happens. And you fertilize it. And on the sixth year you water it and nothing happens. And on the seventh year it sprouts. But once it sprouts it takes off. Some bamboo can grow one meter or three feet in twenty four hours. Some bamboo can grow to nine feet in about four days. It just when it takes off it takes off.

Galatians 6:9 NIV –  Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

•“So let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while, at the RIGHT TIME we WILL reap a harvest of blessing IF we don’t get discouraged and give up!”

It’s Always too soon to Quit!

II Timothy 4:7 NIV – I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Don’t Give up! Don’t Back Down! Tenacious Unsinkable people don’t quit bc of circumstances, rejections, or problems! They WAIT!
